I lived on a farm for a couple months during the plandemic, it fucking sucked. The city has pollution and noise but the lack of people in the country really made me super depressed.
shareNot the wilderness and cabin version, no. I quite like the internet and not having to chop wood and modern amenities. But if I could have a little house by the sea, in a town where few people lived, that would kinda be the dream.
shareSame. My wife and I plan on cashing in on our place and getting out to a little house on a river here in South Louisiana sometime in the future. Would still have power and all, but not be able to see a neighbor. Would grow a big garden and do lots of hunting and fishing.
shareSounds like a dream, hope you and the wife enjoy it. What's the first thing you wanna plant in your garden?
shareBell peppers and onions are the main ingredients I cook with and grow easily here. I didn’t do a garden last year because I was busy and I’m glad I didn’t, as we had a heat wave and a drought. I’m looking forward to this spring.
shareNice. I'm currently growing potatoes, but I've kinda lost my taste for them so I'll likely be gifting a lot to friends and family, but I'd love to grow peppers and tomatoes. It's summer here so a good time for it.
shareIf I had the internet, yes. I think we need some human connections to be truly happy. I certainly enjoy being in the country and in a small town. Wish I was a bit more remote than I am though, but still mostly like some human interaction.
sharePermanently? No.
If I had books and my guitar, I could do it for a few months. It would certainly be an interesting experiment, especially the "no internet" part.
Sure. But society would find me, I'm that adorable.
shareWell, probably - but one has no desire. It's nice to see people, have a laugh and enjoy life. One couldn't see dropping out of the world.
However, an idea that does interest me - I'll call it "Going Nomadland".
Now that sounds like fun and I've thought of doing it. Buy a nice big RV and just go off and tour the country. Meet new people, experience new areas of the country. Yeah, that'd be fun. But dropping out completely - nah - no fun at all.
Ever find the NomadicFanatic YouTube channel?

Guy travels the country back and forth in an RV, with cats.
Yes, thank you - in fact one has checked out some of those videos.
Seemed like the people that went Nomadland really enjoyed it.
Another source of inspiration for me, hahaaaah.
Thanks for the link.
There is a certain romance to the road, but to me that guy sounds like a really messed up lonely person.
shareHahaha - Yeah, I watched a bit of him. Why does he have his car with him? Does he Nomadland 24/7 365 days a year? If so, I wouldn't want to do that. Ill tell you what would be nice - you ever see "About Schmidt"? What he did is along the lines of what Id like to do. Go out and travel - but keep your home and possessions - and then return home when you're done. I couldn't see living like that forever.
shareNope
