I Just Got Ripped Off

I'm HOT right now!! Back on Dec 14th, I was purchasing a Gift Card from Walgreen's for the amount of $250.00 for my girlfriend for Christmas.. Today, she goes to the store to use it and it's no good, that the card doesn't have a CCV Code on the back when she opened it up and apparently was replaced with a duplicate card which I've heard about on the News of people doing in stealing them.. It should be noted that when I purchased this, they kept the Gift Cards behind the register for this very reason!! She tried calling the 800 number on the back and it goes to a recording.. No fucking good folks.. NO FUCKING GOOD!!!

Yeah. Working in a Kroger store myself I heard about the Visa gift card scam going on and how my store couldn't sell them. Sorry you got ripped off. That's rough.

reply

That sucks. Hope you are able to somehow get your money back.

reply

Sorry you both experienced this, hope they give you your money back at least.

reply

Not to sound like a insensitive prick, I'll sound like that in other posts, but another example of why selected gifts or simply cash, are the way to go.

Although what a great way to give a gift to someone you don't like that's nothing more than a piece of plastic.

reply

Sorry to hear it, hope it works out for you.
The Tech scamming bastards scanned our debit cards twice so I feel your pain.
Took a week to get new cards.

They need to up the criminal penalty for this sort of crime, ten full years in the big house I say.

reply

We filed a Fraud report and they're aware of the store this occurred at and has happened before.. They state they'll send a new gift card in 3-5 business days Fed Ex

reply

Good, at least it's sorted out but boy, these small time criminal shits need to be hammered hard so as to send a message to all of the scum out there.

reply

Oh, you were hot in the cold!

Let's challenge the thinking on gift cards, because I am beginning to second guess them.

I assume its because buying an actual gift is more work plus she might not like what you pick, yet cash is just too direct and uncaring? But let's get down do the nitty gritty. Would she really be offended if she received some CRISP $100 bills straight from the US mint??? Put them in a fancy envelope if you must. Despite what she might say.. in that moment would she really accuse you of not caring? Is a gift card that much better in that regard? Plus cash is less work for both of you and offers more flexibility in usability.
