“My favorite show is the Sopranos”
What type of person do you imagine?
shareI imagine a guy that needs to start watching Breaking Bad.
The dope needs to see actual good writing.
I DID like the Sopranos finale, I thought it was pretty clever:)
I expect to get beat up for this but here we are.
My younger brother (not that young anymore...he's almost 53) is the one who finally got me to watch "The Sopranos." He loved it. However...his all-time favorite show is "Breaking Bad." One of my older sisters and I would be talking on the phone with him and 9:59 Sunday night would roll around..."Breaking Bad's coming on, gotta go, bye! (click)" 😃 He would not miss that show for anything!
shareI really loved most of it.
If you enjoy crime shows Ozark, Sneaky Pete and The Wire are all top shelf entertainment. None of them get terribly violent or foul mouthed, just really good writing with some excellent actors and good crime caper storylines.
Someone who likes criminals.
A person who likes good storytelling.
I love The Sopranos!
I did think it was a terrific show when they kept the Mob story going but fuck off with the Tony Jr. and Meadow side stories.
Teenagers are completely annoying, I own two and I want a refund!
Total nonsense and EVERYTHING involving Tony's wife totally sucked. Fuck my life, is this broad STILL picking out curtains?!?
Don't we have to murder a guy in Queens?!?
BTW what did you think of many saints of Newark? Here is a fun review:

Signed, million man
I liked it. Im not certain it's necessary but I'd watch a sequel for sure if they make one. I like the old time Mafia stuff.
shareHonestly, THIS is possibly the MAIN reason I rate Better Call Saul higher than Breaking Bad.
Both excellent shows but man oh man, the family drama shite on BB was so damn infuriating to watch.
Oh, his wife is cheating on him. Oh, his kid is doing some nonsensical shit. Oh, his sister in law is involved in other shit. I don't, I don't fucking care, man!
Fair point, the family drama drags a lot of good shows and movies down a notch.
I think this is why the Eastwood Dirty Harry pictures worked so well as action thrillers, Callahan just seemed to always be on the job, no annoying spouse or kids. He barely slept or cooked, he mostly just chased down guys and shot them.
Didn't hardly read them their rights even, just KBLAM!
Now that's a damn fine and slick movie!
I think there are *some* shows that handle the family drama better but for the most part, it's the most annoying part & as you said, just drags the show.
Especially in crime dramas. I remember people recommending Netflix's Ozark to me. Saying shit like "It's like BB but better"
The only difference between the two shows families is that, in Ozark, the family knows about it by like episode one or 2.
Otherwise, still pretty freaking annoying & easily the worst aspect of the show (imo of course)
Im going out on a limb here and just being honest...most Hollywood writers tend to be men and what the hell do men know about women?
My wife, my sister, my mom and my childhood female bestie are my closest friends, I trust them above all others but boy do they all confuse the hell out of me!
I don't think men write women characters very well.
They usually create a shrew, a whore, a princess or the hapless wife of the leading man...
Men just can't write a convincing female character and how could we, women seem to confuse themselves quite often. That's not taking tasteless shots, just honesty.
THIS is probably why the female characters in these shows are (mostly) written as such annoying, insufferable characters.
While the drug lords & psychopaths are interesting & complex characters that you find yourself kinda rooting for.
A person who has only seen one episode.
This guy.
Could be virtually anyone, including myself.
Out of curiosity, why do phrase these posts like this? Seems kind of passively judgmental.
Why not just ask: "What do you think of The Sopranos?"
It’s not, I swear. I ask these questions because I often wonder what crowd does a certain show appeal to.
shareI believe you. I’m just not sure how accurate a picture you’re going to get by phrasing your inquiry this way. Basically, people who like the show in question are going to respond along the lines of: “a guy with good taste!” while those who aren’t fans will say: “someone who doesn’t know good TV!”.
I don’t think your intent is malicious; these threads just seem to be somewhat of an unintentional invitation to judge others based on fairly trivial entertainment preferences. Personally I don’t believe you can really categorize a person in any significant way based on their favorite show being The Sopranos.
Of course, if you feel you’re getting some valuable answers, then by all means, carry on.
Someone with good taste, probably likes Italian food too.
shareHere are 3 real-life people that I knew who loved it:
1) Former co-worker, Vietnam vet...used to rave about "The Sopranos" when I worked with him about 20 years ago. He had watched it from the beginning (Keep in mind that a lot of people didn't have HBO back then...it was still a bit of a "luxury," for lack of a better word). He ended up getting promoted and I think retired around 2010.
2) Computer programmer, a few years older than me, married to a lady from Russia that my wife and I were friendly with in the early years of our marriage. He was fanatical about "The Sopranos" like my brother was "Breaking Bad." 6:00 Sunday evening would roll around and it was time for us to go, because he had to start preparing to watch "The Sopranos." He had all the episodes to that point, knew the show inside and out...he was a genuine fan.
3. Married Christian white male, a few years younger than me, successful businessman, very good golfer, devoted churchgoer, very well off financially (family was wealthy). I went on a golf trip with him back in 2001 and he talked about how much he loved this show. He was like, "I know I probably shouldn't be watching this show, but I can't help it. I love it!"
