Lord of the Rings

After witnessing the trilogy in theaters, I haven't been able to sit down and watch the series again. Putting the time and effort into 9 hours of one story is a task. But, we do it with TV shows.

I'm going to do it. Extended version.

I'll throw it on the projector and watch it all the way though as ai did back during its release. The goal is to see if I can appreciate it again, or will it just be best remembered in the theater long before series were the primary focus of studios.

He became what he hated. Oh well.

Yeah. Sold out, you could say.

I rewatched them over the years . Recently I viewed Two Towers, I think it may be the strongest of the three.

My main expectation was that the Helms Deep battle scenes would be too long... However, I found the Helms Deep battle scene to stand up suprisingly well, when you compare to other epic battle scenes since. Helm's Deep still stands as one of the most memorable.

Also The Two Towers gets right into the action without any long winded explanations setting up the plot, as in Fellowship.

As for Return of the King, well, we all know the main criticisms there.

reply

I always like fellowship the best as it introduced the world. These are good movies. I just hate that it requires 9 hours for a story.

We refer to it as a trilogy when it's really just one movie split into three parts. That's why I don't consider it the best trilogy. Die Hard, Back to the Future, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones are trilogies in my opinion (i refuse to accept the movies made after these as part of the series). But as this is three movies telling one story, it gets the label.

reply

I’m kind of on the fence because there are parts or Return of the King I really like but other parts I don’t. In the end The Two Towers is probably the strongest.

Why would I ever want to watch some fat ass podcaster Vlogger on a webcam talk about the movie, rather than the actual DVD or Blu-ray??

If I wanted commentary, I would watch the DIRECTOR'S/ PRODUCER'S COMMENTARY track.
So you don't watch movies , you just watch fatass youtubers make 2 hour long VLOG's about the movie , the movie which you refuse to watch apparently.

Oh yeah, you're Kowalski. I've seen you all over this site, making some of the dumbest most brain-numbing posts around. That explains everything.

THAT WAS FAIRLY RUDE...I WILL CUT YOU SOME SLACK THOUGH...I FIND THE LORD OF THE RINGS MOVIES TO BE BLOATED AND KIND OF BORING...BUT I DO ENJOY SOME MOMENTS...HACK THE MOVIES GIVES THE OPTION OF WATCHING A SOW I LIKE WITH PEOPLE I ENJOY LISTENING TO...WHILE ALSO CATCHING THOSE MOMETS FROM THE MOVIE AS WELL AS GETTING A COMPLETE RUN THROUGH OF THE PLOTS AND ALL...TONY FROM HACK THE MOVIES IS VERY FAMOUS.

I broke a new record. 1:36:12 into the first film. Am I the only one who finds Liv Tyler to look stunning but be uninteresting in this?

She says a little romantic this and that at Rivendell and pretty much spends the rest of the story crying or posing. Shit man, if she wasn't in the chase from the Nazgul, she'd basically be a trophy.

reply

Yes, but “The Flight to the Forge” chapter is tied with “The Battle of the Pelinor Fields” chapter as the best chapter in the entire story.

reply

I understand that but the use of Eowyn for that moment doesn't work for the film. Here she is all badass and then boom, she spends the movie as a trophy.

reply

It's Rivendell, not Riverdale. And for the record, I'll take all the women in these films over that shithead Guyladriel in the "Rings of Power" series any day of the week!

reply

You're right, but still she sucks in this. BTW, if you get annoyed with my spelling errors, there are plenty more to come. This phone is getting glitchy.

reply

Oh God, not that feature that tries to type the word for you! I hate that!

reply

It's a pain when it does that. Especially if you use your phone for German and Latin language courses.

reply

Beats those female losers in the "Rings of Power" series.

reply

Thats very true.

reply

Surely, Riverdance?

reply

It would go with the hobbit flicks.

reply

I know what you mean.

Even though I had it since it came out, still haven't bothered to watch the extended version of of the third film.

reply

I watched all three in the theater and bought the extended versions. IMHO, the last two theatrical versions are garbage compared to the extended versions since they add more story and character development. I consider the extended movies to be masterpieces and I used to watch them every year.

About 11 1/2 hours for the extended versions. I usually spend 3 weekends to view by watching one DVD each day.

Pop the popcorn and enjoy!

reply

It took 3 days to get through the fellowship. I'm going to do the extended versions of the two others.

I'm glad it's your thing. I can't really appreciate it.

reply

I'm into the art: music; beautiful Rivendell, Hobbiton; costumes; direction. Beautiful film to watch. Same reason I became a huge Star Wars fan.

reply

I have, but each film is telling a long story, so I feel I need to sit with each one for a little bit before I can get into the next one - so I usually watch them one at a time, maybe over a week if I have the time. It's kinda like novel reading, you don't usually read three thick novels in one sitting, one right after the other (though I'm sure some people do), you need at least an hour or more before you move onto the next one.
