Who's Nas or Mike Shinoda? I liked Mike's sound just never heard of him. Kayne West shouldn't be on anyones singing list.

reply

I've told you about him before. He is the rapping part of Linkin Park.

Signed, million man.

reply

just based on length of career, Eminem.

reply

Eminem. I'm not much a fan of rap but I do like him.

reply

My top 2 would probably be Immortal Technique and Eminem.

Technique is more underground and has a very limited discography, but Revolutionary Vol 2 is probably my favorite Hip-Hop album.

Eminem is more consistent and has multiple really great albums.

Also a big fan of Dre, Nas, and 2Pac.

Only problem with Hip Hop in general is that most of it absolutely sucks. But when it’s good, it’s really good.

“Tupac is only popular because he died”

Nah, dozens of rappers have died and nobody even remembers their names. You don’t have to personally like 2Pac, but regardless, he’s still a hip-hop legend.

Apart from him, there’s really only Biggie who both died and was/is comparable in popularity to Pac. Then there’s a few lesser guys like ODB.

Either way, these guys were all big even before their unfortunate deaths.

reply

Okay, lets just say Tupac was overrated.

Gangsta East Coast West Coast drama made for a great story in the media.

reply

I agree to certain extent. 2pac was popular during his lifetime. His move to death row was massive at the time, and the east coast/west coast beef crossed over in to the mainstream media. But I never really heard anyone call him the greatest ever.

When he died, he was at the height of his fame, so he kind of passed in to legend. His first video after his death was about was dying and going to heaven. Then his next Album was released under the name Makaveli, which started the rumor that he was still alive, which kinda made him like Elvis to black people. Somehow he has had more than twice as many albums come out after his death.

I think when an artist dies plays a huge role in to this. Dying at the height of their fame, is alot different the. Dying after they’ve faded from the spotlight, or put out music that isn’t as good as their best stuff. Some other examples, Biggie Obviously. Aaliyah, Jim Morrison, Kurt Kobain, Janis Joplin, Selena.

reply

Yeah, his career was cut short too early.

Somehow he has had more than twice as many albums come out after his death.

I imagine he had done all sorts of studio work which wasn't released. Then with his death it was thrown together as albums.

He missed the 27 Club by two years.

I'd have to go with Bill Cosby...Wait a tick! I think I misread that post title.

reply

Why are they called rappers and not rappists?

reply

Lol, you might be on to something there. I call em garbage.

reply

I like some Hip Hop. But definitely not Tupac.
