Parents shouldn't spend their kids inheritance on themselves

Sadly the only way many kids or adults are ever going to own property is to inherit it.

So when people laugh that they spending their kids inheritance during retirement on lavish overseas vacations or new cars, I cringe.

You should want your kids to be looked after when you're gone.

Wealth should transfer. If you spend it all some corporation will inherit it

WEIRD.

By chance, did this happen to you to post something like this??

reply

Your parents don't owe you their wealth.

If you get old, it gets expensive.

If you got some coin to spend on yourself while you can enjoy it, that's your business.

Boxer worked his entire life and his reward was the glue factory - not everyone is cool with that.

reply

LOL. The only thing you "owe" your kids is to love them and teach them how to become well rounded, successful adults. After that, they're on their own. I took care of my son until he was an adult - pretty sad to think adults need to be "looked after."

Not saying you can't do things for your kids to help them along the way, but it should never be an expectation.

Love doesn't put a roof over your kids head, money does, and unfortunately money is hard to come by in this economy and real estate is overpriced, particularly in California.

Therefore parents who were fortunate to have lived during economically prosperous times where home ownership was obtainable, shouldn't cash out their house to live beyond an average life.

reply

My father cashed out all his property when I was 19 years old and he spent it here and there, he died poor and I'm pretty much stuffed since then

reply

That sucks.

Are you handicapped to the point of not being able to work?

reply

Having a job where I live (The Balkans) is easier said than done, let alone owning a house... Also I'm not educated, I have a technician's degree (two years school) that only makes available low paid jobs, So I'm pretty much stuffed

People rise up all the time. Recharge, jump back in, fight for it. There's no easy silver platter.

reply

💯

reply

Well.....

Move away from California and live somewhere else.

Not true. This post reeks of entitlement.

reply

Absolutely!

reply

Agreed, but entitlement is how the world works now days.
I blame those exact parents.
What did they expect giving little Timmy a prize for doing nothing but finishing each grade? Never teaching them life takes actual work.

Reap what we sow, wenches!! :)

people can do what they want with their money. i always tell my son not to count on anything. people can get sick and need nursing are or go into a home which costs a fortune.

And you should have learned how to write a plural possessive, but you didn’t.

reply

What you should want is for your parents to live out a comfortable and fulfilling life. If it leaves you with nothing after they are gone then so be it.

If it’s important for you to own property you may need to work harder.
