🎥 MovieClub Party: Friday/Saturday Features #20 🍿

I have a wedding on Saturday and I doubt I will be able to partake to the event on that night so I picked two movies I already saw. One I loved and was recommended by Ali and one I liked and doubt anyone else has seen. I will share my reviews just to titillate you a bit.

This Movie Party will allow two things to happen:

-people will be able to watch the same movie at the same time and interact here
-people will be able to have common movies to watch over the weekend and share reviews on my other weekly thread.

Event #1: Friday night, Oct. 13 9PM Eastern time (if you want to watch live) and event closes Sunday at 5PM (if you haven’t been able to watch live.)

The first feature is: Hatchet 2
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1270835/

For the night owls:
The God inside my ear (2017)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6921112/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_the%2520god%2520inside

Event #2: Saturday evening.

First feature: Maximum Overdrive (1986)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091499/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_maximum%2520ov

My review: It has an overkickass AC/DC soundtrack, an overcool beginning with the brigde, an overcute Emilio Estevez, overrad special effects, overbadass trucks, overwicked dialogues (Curtis: we gotta get some gas. Connie: that’s good because I got to go to the ladies room. Curtis: can I come in and watch? Connie: No, you cannot come in and watch! Curtis: Damn.), overintense love affair and finally, overslick direction from Stephen King. This movie is unfortunately the opposite of overrated.

For the night owls: Trick (2019)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9177040/?ref_=fn_al_tt_3

My review: I’m one of Omar Epps day-ones so this review might be bias but it’s October and the Halloween vibe here is great (love the killer’s masks and face paints!). The first 5 minutes are awesome and it keeps a pretty good pace although, unfortunately, the final act gets far fetched and convoluted. Overall: fun and entertaining.

You can now reply with a mention of which event(s) you will partake in for the weekend and also recommend a movie (on Tubi or any other free site) for next weeks.

Have fun!

When they’re at the theater, one of the guy says to the other: this movie is boring. And the other one replies: Stop being such a bitch.

Just sayin’

reply

Ha, didn't catch that.

reply

Weird but true, a police issued ballistic vest will stop certain handgun caliber slugs (though broken ribs or damaged organs are to be expected) but they will NOT stop a knife!

Something about the way the material is woven together stops the slug but a sharp point can pierce it.

reply

Yeah I love when people are like "but he JUST had a knife!".

reply

I have a bit of inside info on this as I know two combat vets and a few cops, if a guy is within fifteen feet of you with a knife and he's deranged enough you are probably getting cut even if you fatally injure him at some point with a handgun.

Knives are NO joke. Cops tell me that if they catch a guy with a knife they pat him down thoroughly twice, the knife sorts often have a second blade tucked away somewhere in their clothes.

Jeez, lots of crazies out there!

reply

Shit!
Gunshot to the throat seems unsurvivable, nothing fixes that.

reply

So, nothing supernatural after all Sherlock.

Hey man, 67% of the time I figure it all out half the time!

JAMIE KENNEDY?....UGH.

reply

Hey, Kowboy, get this:

Kristina Reyes Is better in this than that girl with the People’s eyebrow in Hatchet 3.

I liked how she grabbed that keyboard to defend herself against wheelchair.

Even better was the moment she slammed that hospital bench a few seconds after.

They were trying so hard for a franchise but it was released four years ago and only had box office/hard copy sales of between $49K to $107K so the studio must have taken a bath. BTW, it's really hard to find solid financials on movies, I swear that the bosses shift money around and there is some crooked shit going on with a lot of productions. I can't even find a budget for this thing, that should be available but try to find it.

Anyways, I enjoyed it for what it was, a bit of a Saw/Halloween/Fallen combo ripoff...good enough, no major complaints.
Maximum Overdrive was WAY more fun:)

reply

A decent movie overall, and it was nice to see Omar Epps again. I'm going to watch Maximum Overdrive now if I can stay awake.

reply

Maximum Overdrive is great, super fun.
Enjoy bud, see you next weekend for MCMC.

reply

Real talk.

Do you mean this:
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0106323/?ref_=tt_mv_close

Searching for Auntie Lee I also stumbled upon this:
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0096936/?ref_=tt_mv_close

Lol

reply

I saw both, the killer lawn mower flick was stupidly fun but I meant the one in your first link. It's a masterpiece of chilling horror, it will scare everyone in the MCMC, I promise, or I'll mail you one dollar USD bro.

reply

Alright, I guess all is left for me to do is mop off all the butter on the floor and turn off the lights.

Goodnight.

reply

Sleep tight.

For next weekend I suggest one of the shows be Auntie Lee's Meat Pies, it was suggested before by a super cool dude who's name escapes me at the moment but I've seen it too and it's really ridiculous, perfect for our club bro.

I will now play some Odd Future in the garage with a drink to lull you to sleep.
