As a child, did you play with toys "meant" for another gender?

(i.e. boys playing with "girl toys", and girls playing with "boy toys")

I occasionally did as a boy. I liked to collect girl toys such as dolls and plushies if they interested me.

reply

Yes, and I'm still annoyed today about the school festival where it wasn't allowed to choose the diving mask with snorkel and flippers because they were assigned to the boys' table. ๐Ÿ˜กโ€‹

reply

That sucks! Gender stereotyping can be bad.

reply

A few years ago a TV-show showed me how much I'm still stuck myself in sometimes stupid role models (clothes, toys).
In this TV show they also sent other 'role models' to a primary school class (e.g. real male florist, real female pilot). It was amazing how the children changed their desired careers.

My cousin had an awesome kitchen set. I didn't want one myself, but I didn't mind it when I went over.

reply

Sounds cool!

reply

THAT'S NICE...NOW GET THAT SQUARE LITTLE ASS OF YOURS IN THAT KITCHEN AND MAKE ME A SANDWICH...CHOP CHOP.

reply

How do you take your poison?

reply

CUT DIAGONALLY...IF IT'S CUT INTO RECTANGLES...I SEND IT BACK!

reply

Crust it is.

reply

I would have loved one of those as a kid, was my favorite toy at Playschool

Never thought of kitchen sets as particularly girly though.

reply

Every time I opened a catalogue there was always a girl playing with it. When I saw other kids play with it at birthday parties, it was always girls. I guess society was telling girls they should be in the kitchen.

reply

The only toy I remember playing with that was targeted at girls was the โ€œMystery Dateโ€ board game.

reply

Hmm...I googled the game and the premise doesn't seem interesting....

reply

I had a neighbor girl who was close to my age. I'd sometimes play with her.

On my own, I never really did though.

reply

Yeah, I have 2 older brothers so it was a given. My brothers and their friends also enjoyed putting Ken and barbie into compromising positions lol.

reply

My friends and I used to do the same, lol.

reply

No, and I'd advise all parents of boys to NEVER allow their sons to play with dolls because many serial killers played with dolls as children, and enjoyed the control they exerted over these playthings, hurting them, undressing them, etc. Be warned.

reply

ACTION FIGURES ARE DOLLS FOR BOYS...WE ALL HAD THOSE...YOUR THEORY IS SHIT...CHILDISH TOO.

reply

You can't undress an action figure (generally speaking)

reply

LOTS OF ACTION FIGURES CAN BE UNDRESSED.

reply

I still have my GI Joe and Planet of the Apes action figures. They can all be undressed.

The older ones are better than the cheap modern plastic ones.

reply

No, but my daughter has an interest in cars, which is completely my fault.

reply

My daughter still has a huge interest in cars which was partially my fault. She's always liked cars and I encouraged her. We built her a pretty respectable drift car and she's getting pretty good.

P.S. I now want a drift car and if you go to a drift event and do a ride along, you'll want one too. So fun!

reply

I race cars in an amateur capacity, so I completely understand the thrill.

reply

Vroom!

reply

LIKE TOKYO DRIFT?...SIDEWAYS DRIVING LIKE BOW WOW?

reply

Yep. Probably the cheapest form of racing and it's an absolute blast. Slingin' it sideways and not having to worry about getting arrested is awesome!

reply

THAT IS PRETTY COOL...WE NEED SOME VIDEO FOOTAGE OF CHILONE DRIFTING!

reply

When I do, I will!

reply

Probably. I have an older sister, so will have had some hand-me-downs as she grew out of stuff. I don't remember anything that was stereotypically 'girly' -- I do remember getting all her Lego though, oh happy day -- but I'm sure some of it will have been in the mix.
