So many great choices mentioned....I do think "St. Elmo's Fire" is an excellent choice. I'm like Shogun, though...I can't stand the movie 😃 (I don't think any of the main characters are likable....great soundtrack, though).
I was in school all throughout the 80s (started in elementary school,finished in college), so I really relate to the "school movies" of the 80s. Here are two I'll mention:
1) "The Breakfast Club" (1985) - just about everything about the 80s is encapsulated here, plus it's a John Hughes movie (and Hughes was just such a huge part of the 80's movie scene).
2) "Can't Buy Me Love" (1987) - I rewatched this movie earlier this year for the first time in years and it really took me back to that particular era. It's so cheesy and cringeworthy at times...but I think the story and message is mostly good. Something about that movie makes me long for waking up early on a bright & sunny early June morning.
