Which obscure actor do you think deserved an Oscar for their performance?

I'll start with Leland Orser in Se7en as the bladed strap-on character. His character suffered unimaginable trauma!

Kim Hye-ja for "Mother" (2009).

That’s a good shout out. I guess the movie is so intensely dark it’s easy to overlook a short performance that added to all of the grimy misery.

Interesting thread, I’ll try to think of one too.

I wouldn't exactly call Leland Orser an "obscure" actor, but yes, he was brilliant in that scene.

reply

True, he might not be a household name but his name is out there.

Robert Judd - played The Devil in the movie "Crossroads" (1986). I've said it before and I'll say it again...I think it's the greatest depiction of The Devil ever captured onscreen.

I have to say I think he was great for the role. Very odd that he acted so little. I don't know if I'd go as far as Oscar but if they would have fleshed out his part a bit I think it could have been something really fantastic.

reply

Interesting choice. I think I saw that movie when I was 14 so I don't remember it well. I'll have to rewatch it. Apparently his first uncredited role was in "Across 110th Street".

Jaye Davidson in The Crying Game (1992). First ever acting role. Nominated, but didn't win.

Brandon Maggart - Christmas Evil (1980)

I saw this for the first time around a year ago and it definitely replaces Black Christmas for me as THE Christmas slasher.

reply

It's a great film but Black Christmas is nearly untouchable for me. BC is in my top 20-25 favorite films ever, regardless of genre.

reply

I know what you mean. It’s certainly a superior film in most all regards. I just personally fell in love with Christmas Evil’s wtf moments and its vibe. I still wonder how I went do long without ever discovering it.
