What did you watch this week partner? (07/02-07/08) CLOSED
Another good week of movie watching and popcorn eating:
Man of the house (1995 Disney+): Unfortunately, this one didn’t hold up like other childhood classics of mine did (ex: Jungle 2 Jungle or Problem child). Two of my three kids almost bailed out half way in out of boredom. I don’t think it was THAT bad but not very good either. Too many jokes fell flat this time around. My rating: 5/10
Crazy rich Asian (2018 TV): Well put together with some good acting from all parts but I found it a bit too conventional for all the high praises it got. A fun, beautiful and sweet romantic flick for sure. My rating: 7/10
Spring (2014 Tubi): This was a nice surprise, recommended by none other than Fredburroughs. It’s another romance you’ve seen a hundred times before but with a neat new horrible twist that never took away any of the genuineness of it all. My rating: 7/10
Desperate measures (1998 TV): This is another solid and effective action-thriller from then 90’s. Keaton’s performance definitely elevates the whole project and I appreciated that the movie didn’t take itself too seriously. Light, good, fun. Although I am wondering, am I the only one who’d like to see this very same film but switch the two lead’s roles? My rating: 6.5/10
Finding Nemo (2003 DVD) : Okay, I was in the wrong. For 20 years I thought I’d dislike this movie and thought it looked bad and that was based off 5 minutes of screening time and a look at the movie poster. Eck, for so long I thought Nemo was a blue fish. Nah, the story was very exciting, the graphics were beautiful and Nemo is orange. I was in the wrong. My rating: 8/10
The VelociPastor (2018 MovieChat Friday night special): This is the perfect example of how to make a movie with not much more than a few wild-and-down-to-ride actors , a rubber dinosaur, ninja suits, and some cameras. And when I say not much more I mean basically nothing else. This Brendan Steere guy is such a genius for pulling this off. This title goes right up there along favourites of mine like Black Dynamite. My rating: 7.5/10
Dog eat dog (2016 MovieChat Friday night special): The opening 10 minutes were a pure blast and promised a possible extraordinary film coming up but unfortunately it didn’t hold up as it quickly lost its drive and started losing itself in a lot of superfluous dialogues. The characters were fun but Dafoe was the highlight, the story was messy but still enjoyable. The heavy dialogues made me lose focus a few times and what with all the name dropping (Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Nirvana, Bogart, Jackie Chan (this one was funny though)…). I enjoyed it but don’t think I’d rewatch it except for the opening scene. My rating: 6.5/10
Warlock (1989 MovieChat Saturday night special): This is a very good late night fantasy popcorn movie even though I fell asleep on it at exactly 1h09. I finished it about 10 minutes ago and I think the second half was even better than the first. I don’t know if there is a better warlock movie somewhere so you look tithere and I’ll search tithere. My rating: 7/10
