Have you ever dined in an upscale restaurant by yourself?

The most upscale restaurant where I've dined by myself is a Chicago-area steakhouse known as Wildfire. Even if I was solo I was able to enjoy my prime rib dinner with minimal distractions.

Wildfire is a somewhat upscale restaurant with fancy old-school decor and related trimmings.

I've never stepped foot in an "upscale restaurant" at all, nor have I ever had any interest in doing so. There's no such thing as food that's worth much money to me. It's just sustenance consisting of prosaic things such as carbohydrates, fat, and protein, and its effects only last for 6 hours or so.

Bonanza is the most highfalutin restaurant I've ever been to, and the last time I was there was in 1987 or 1988 when I was 12 or 13. I had a really good hamburger there one time, but the next time I was there it wasn't anywhere near as good.

I guess that's a way of looking at food...kinda reductionist, eh?

I once had breakfast at Flurys in Kolkata when I was travelling in India by myself. But then this Austrian tourist asked if he could join me and I happily accepted. This was back in the days when the only social media was MSN Messenger. Otherwise I had hardly spoken to family and friends for the past 2 and a half weeks so I really enjoyed his company!

If Texas Roadhouse counts as upscale, then yes.

Yes...not very often, but occasionally when I was single.

when travelling, sure

I've only eaten at fast food restaurants alone.

It would feel odd sitting at nice restaurant where you are waited on alone. Probably because you spend some time just waiting. At a fast food restaurant you sit down, eat and leave.

Yes, but I did feel out of place, and the server clearly wasn't glad to have a table for one to deal with. But I was there because they had duck comfit on the menu, and that's very hard to find. It was superb!

So now I'm vegetarian, and if I eat out alone for some reason it's always takeout, drive-thru, or at a casual place with counter service.
