Does anyone else find it weird when songs fade out at the end?

As a rocker, it's more rare for songs to fade out but, like, just finish the song like a normal person. Musicians aren't going to start singing lower and lower when they perform it live, so give it a proper ending in the studio.

I fully expect this thread to be parodied, but I'm being serious.

Makes no difference to me. It's entirely up to the artist how they want to present their music.

Interestingly enough, AC/DC has very few songs in their catalog that fade out at the end. The only ones I can think of off-hand are "Dog Eat Dog", & "Downpayment Blues". Maybe a few others.

reply

I'm surprised they would. They usually end their songs with a bang.

I generally don't like it, but with some songs it just fits. I can't imagine Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" ending any other way than with Gilmour's endless guitar solo.

Well it's like the magical mystery tour strolled by.

I just mapped out the midi notes to 'everything means nothing to me' by Elliott smith

He says that line 17 times with a dramatic score at the end. , 3 times in a chorus before the second verse, it would have been weird if it just ended with no dramatic fade. Less dramatic. If you want to covey a powerful message and repeat it 17 times I think a fade is proper placement.

Helter Skelter does a weird fade out, then fade in, only for it to fade out quickly after.

This song fades out, and THEN picks up again, but we can't really hear that anymore.
Weird choice.

That's a strange one. Really abrupt ending.

Sometimes the best solid occur during the face out which is more annoying!

Thinking about it now I don't think fade outs happen so much now. Probably not suited to digital downloads and music videos.

reply

Definitely doesn't happen as much now, but I think when it does it's mostly for pop music.
