Apart From E.T. and Back to the Future...

...is there any popular film from the last forty years that *isn't* getting a sequel, prequel, reboot or spin-off?

I just saw a link on YouTube for a Full Monty spinoff. Bloody hell!πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Is nothing sacred?

The Princess Bride.

Forrest Gump
Sleepless in Seattle

Forrest Gump is a very good example. I'm actually surprised that hasn't happened yet (i.e. a sequel featuring Gump's son's misadventures throughout the last three decades in history).

reply

I'm surprised too. Your sequel idea would practically write itself!

reply

I wouldn't say it was *my* idea (I'm pretty sure I read it suggested elsewhere). LOL. But thank you for the credit!

reply

Wasn't Gump's son supposed to be normal? Although they could still make him quirky on some way. I don't think the last 3 decades has as much nostalgia value as the 50's through 70's though.

Breakfast Club
The Devil Wears Prada

Passenger 57
Broken Arrow
Sliver
The Hand that Rocks the Cradle
Ferris Beuller's Day Off

The list goes on. Look outside the narrow tunnel of mass market pop culture and you'll see plenty of original ideas.

reply

Sliver? With Sharon Stone? Was that ever a 'hit'? Likewise, Passenger 57 and Broken Arrow, but Ferris Bueller is a good shout (and it's a film they've been threatening to do a sequel to for years).

reply

They can make a sequel of Ferris Bueller with the original cast where they escape from a nursing home for a day.

reply

You are showing an incredible amount of disrespect to the best film of 2008 "WALLΒ·E."

reply

The Green Mile
Pulp Fiction
My Cousin Vinny
Legends of the Fall
Braveheart

reply

Out of all of those, My Cousin Vinny is the one I could see getting some sort of spin-off (I'm amazed there wasn't a sitcom based on the premise of a wacky Italian-American lawyer whose rough-around-the-edges manner rubs his fellow lawyers the wrong way). The other films you mention are indie hits or historical dramas (i.e. prestige films, which don't tend to get sequels, although, now I'm reading that Gladiator is to get a sequel; forgive me if I'm being a moron here, but I thought Russell Crowe's character was dead).
