Should political views come in between friendships and how you feel about a person?
Not trying to start a debate about politics, I’m just asking should a friendship come in between personal beliefs?
shareNot trying to start a debate about politics, I’m just asking should a friendship come in between personal beliefs?
shareNo but they often do unfortunately.
shareIt really depends on what the beliefs are, how the friend shows those beliefs, and how strongly they contradict what you believe in.
shareYes, sometimes politics can end friendships, and it's true that many friendships and familiar relationships have come crashing down when some idiot supports a politician who is trying to take legal rights away from someone they love. And that's right and just!
Say you have a friend or relative who is married to a same-sex partner, and you support a politician who wants to end same-sex marriage, what the hell kind of friend or family member are you? You should be valuing your friend or family member's rights, not colluding in taking them away! So you can absolutely expect to be called on your shit, told off and cut off, if you're willing to throw someone else's legal rights under the bus AND you expect them to forgive you for doing so.
Well I’m apolitical. I refuse to take any sides. I despise politics, it just divides everyone instead of bringing them together. Your friendships and relationships should always be your #1 priority.
shareThen you won't lose any relationships over political issues, unless you know someone who's so over-invested that they pull the "If you aren't with me you're against me" crap. And why would anyone care to know such a person?
No
shareNo, but unfortunately it does happen.
Avoid political talk with everybody. Seriously, it’s all horseshit anyway.
Stalin had Trotsky bumped off in Mexico City despite both being Leninist’s and fellow revolutionaries.
The funniest part of the Trotsky assassination was that the killer used an ice axe….in MEXICO CITY! How did nobody ask ‘why the hell do you have an ice axe in Mexico City?!?’
It would be like me getting pulled over by NYS Troopers and having to explain a seven foot harpoon in my trunk.
my wife and i vote for different parties. it's not a big deal.
shareMy wife and I rarely know each other’s political thoughts or who voted for any of these bum ‘leaders.’ It doesn’t really matter, it’s always a shit show anyway, so why argue?
We’re not political nor very religious which makes for a pretty smooth ride😉
No but these days people "identify" as something and are willing to go to war over it.
Back in the day there was a social rule "Don't discuss politics, religion or money" and it worked fine. Now politics is everywhere, even in silly movies, tv and music.
Generally no. If you are a lefty for example, and you have conservative friends, you should be able to argue, debate, and disagree, while being respectful. You could also be disrespectful as long as it is in good fun. For example, I get in debates with my friend all the time, when he says something retarded, I call him a retard and a waterhead, and proceed to dismantle his ideology. But this is all in good fun. We constantly refer to each other using all sorts of slurs and put-downs. We throw them around a lot when we get into heated debates. We have a good time doing it. If however I had some friend who went woke and started lecturing me about pronouns and white privilege, we wouldn't be friends for long.
