What is the best movie ever made....and why?

Is it the best due to personal tastes? Technical brilliance? Box office results? Cultural impact? Story?

I want you to justify why it's the best movie ever made.

And go!

Obviously the correct answer is:
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

A story of a beautiful friendship and of keeping the flame of hope alive in the darkest of places.

What if a movie that includes the issue of male rape is not my idea of a great movie?

As Red (Morgan Freeman) says during that seen: "I wish I could tell you that Andy fought the good fight [...], but prison ain't no fairy tale".
I think the scene is important, and shows you how dark Andy's world became. That's what makes his holding on to hope so powerful.

I don't know how you can ignore the good parts of a movie just because it has one tough scene, especially if that scene makes the movie better. Rejecting a film based on one uncomfortable moment means missing out on the deeper messages and experiences that art can offer. Sometimes, facing harsh truths in art can help us understand and grow as people.

I'm sure this movie caused a lot of male suicides for those facing prison terms thinking about being raped.

And they probably did the right thing.
