Who is an actor, where no matter how bad the movie is, they are still great in it?

I could name several, but I have liked Willem Dafoe in every movie I've seen him in, regardless of if I didnt like the overall movie.

I wanna add Elias Koteas. He's been good in everything I've seen him in and yet not enough recognition as others.

Daniel von Bargen is another actor no one mentioned yet who is great in everything I've seen him in!
I remember him the most from Malcolm in the Middle, but was always pleased with his performances

reply

I don't know about great, but I always enjoy the performances of these actors:

Alison Brie
Elijah Wood
Emily Browning
Henry Cavill
Jonny Lee Miller
Keanu Reeves
Teresa Palmer

reply

I can agree with most of that list. I would be so bold to say Elijah Wood is great. I think I first saw him in "The Good Son" alongside Macaulay Culkin. Guy went from child actor until now and has remained consistently good! https://www.imdb.com/video/vi1163705113/?ref_=vp_rv_ap_0

I love seeing Johnny Lee Miller too, HACKERS

reply

Yeah, that's a very fair Elijah Wood assessment, he's amazing. And even if you don't like Lord of the Rings, him being interviewed unknowingly by one of his fellow actors is one of the greatest things to ever happen. I saw him often as a kid, can't be sure if it was The Good Son or Forever Young, but he was great in everything then and he still is.

reply

I liked him a lot in The Faculty https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133751/

He was perfect for Lord of the Rings.

reply

He was perfect for LotR, I agree, and I was pleasantly surprised by his The Faculty performance.

reply

I'll go with Tom Sizemore. He's on my mind right as I'm reading the latest updates on him. He was so good in every role he played in. He was in some great action movies and I'll never forget his role in True Romance.

reply

Very sad news. The family might take him off life support, the stroke probably damaged his brain. The guy is only 61.

reply

Oh no : (
sad news indeed.

He is a good actor too, struggled greatly with addictions. The director of Saving Private Ryan helped him with tough love by telling him he can star in the movie but if he's caught messing with heroin at all he will be cut from the movie no matter how many scenes he is in!

reply

Yeah I remember reading about that. Sad situation indeed, always enjoyed his roles.

reply

Yeah, I know the guy had problems, he seemed disengaged and disinterested during his performance in Black Hawk Down, he was probably going through some really bad stuff.

reply

I agree with all of the names that I recognize here (which is most of them) and would add Philip Seymour Hoffman.

reply

He was great at playing weasely douchebags, whats a role where he is a good guy? (other than the hunger games movies)

reply

Pirate Radio as "The Count".

reply

LOVE LIZA.

THE SAVAGES.

SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK.

JACK GOES BOATING.

TERRIFIC ACTOR WHO LEFT A TON OF AMAZING WORK ON THE TABLE WHEN HE DIED.

reply

And he was another actor who struggled with addictions. I remember him the most from one of my favorite dramas "Scent of a Woman".

reply

Twister. Not high art but he's an enjoyable addition to the cast.

reply

Tom Hanks.
Joe Pesci.
Brian Dennehey.

reply

Joe Pesci, yeah thats a good mention!

reply

Whats your favorite Joe Pesci movie? Mine is a tough draw between "Casino" and "My Cousin Vinny"

reply

I love My Cousin Vinny πŸ˜„

reply

"Ive got Owls, I've got WHISTLES! A man wants to fight me over the matter of two hundred dollars! Now your biological clock is *stomp stomp stomp* ticking! What else can we pile on top of the outcome of this case? Is there something else!? Im waiting"!!?

xD

Also Marisa Tomei is such a babe :P

reply

Mel Gibson
Bill Hurt
Ralph Fiennes
Aidan Turner

reply

Ralph Fiennes has made this list more than once, and for good reason!

I last watched Bill Hurt on the movie "Micheal" with John Travolta and Andie McDowell. Its been a favorite of mine for years.

Mel Gibson is A-List material so he's brining on anything he's in

reply

Ioan Gruffudd

reply

I know him only from The Fantastic Four xD

Yet I think Ive seen him on a show but am unsure which?

reply

Forever
Harrow
Titanic
King Arthur
Glee
Ringer

Any ring a bell?

reply

Ive only seen Titanic out of that list and that was many years ago. But I must have seen his face many times when reading my Eweeklys for those other shows yet never watched them.

reply

Keith David

reply

Very good mention! When I first watched the movie The Thing, I picked two characters to root for and it was Kurt Russell and Keith David. : ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ftmr17M-a4&t=61s

Loved him in They Live as well https://i.pinimg.com/originals/11/1c/aa/111caa318d97b1cd41640cf61e1ad553.jpg

One more thing: For the longest time I called him Keith Davids, I think it was because his name was "Childs" on The Thing xD

reply

The Thing was a terrific remake, even better than the 1951 original which was very good.

Funny movie trivia: the David vs. Piper alley fight scene was scripted to be very short, like twenty seconds. Neither actor liked this and spent a couple of weeks choreographing and practicing their own fight scene that went on five minutes longer! Carpenter loved it and put it in the movie and thus was born one of the greatest movie brawls of all timeπŸ˜„

reply

That is wonderful to read : )
Im sure Roddy Rowdy Pipers wrestling experience was fundamental to how good their scene was pulled off. I had read somewhere that at some point a mark was missed and actual contact was made. When Piper says "Im sorry" he actually meant it as he goofed but David was pissed and went in for a real hit and they left it all in xD

reply

Two big dudes! They probably did hurt each other a couple times.

Classic sci-fi movie, both guys were excellent leads.
