How was YOUR 2022 in terms of content consumption?

I barely watched anything this year. This was my "least productive year" in terms of watching stuff in a decade.

I think it mostly has to do with the fact that I moved THREE times this year. I've never moved more than once in a calendar year in my entire lifetime.

Also, the stuff I watched were mostly old stuff on my watchlist. This year's offerings looked mostly unappealing to me. Even the superhero genre was weak this year.

reply

Moving is rough, you have my sympathy. Stuff always gets broken or goes missing when you move!

I watched a lot of horror, westerns, superhero and action stuff this year. I’ve also gotten back into true crime documentaries because they are all over my various streaming services.

reply

You never realize how much stuff you have, until you move!

reply

So true.
I’ve been a life long collector of very interesting things…Victorian and Art Deco antiques, vinyl rock and pop records, guns and ammo, comic books, knives, Americana and folk art, fishing and camping gear, old dusty farm tools, foreign coins and currency, etc.

Anything interesting and a bit old is a wonder to behold.

I am growing increasingly annoyed by the taxes, political climate and public behavior here in New York State so I’ll likely head south in five or so years after I get my pension and bennies down in NYC.

I just don’t know what to do with all of my really neat collections.

A farmhouse somewhere in the Carolinas with a huge barn would serve the purpose.

My family wants Florida but we’ll see!

“My family wants Florida but we’ll see!”

Jeez! We might be neighbours one day. I’m tempted to buy a place in Naples.

reply

Naples is pretty great… it has a nice traffic flow, all of the buildings are clean and new, the restaurants and Zoo are really nice…a second story condo seems desirable because of the occasional storms and flooding.

It’s only about 10 minutes to the beach too.

reply

Sounds like my kind of place - a perfect bolt hole.

reply

Ain't that the truth! I'm genuinely not exaggerating, I spent up to 5 hours just clearing my room.

I have stuff that I've never used. I have stuff I never even knew I had.

I realized that I have too much junk, man! lol

Next time, I'm hiring someone to help me move. Cause man oh man, moving on your own sucks balls

reply

At this point, I don't even know what's missing or broken. I haven't even unpacked yet & it's been three weeks already.

Just set up my bed & got my TV out. That's it. I need a break. lol

reply

In terms of stuff I managed to watch this year, it wasn't a lot but I found some good stuff.

But honestly, I feel like this year's Superhero & basically blockbusters in general were kinda disappointing.

Also,I did finally give anime a chance & found some fantastic stuff

reply

I watched 888 films this year.

reply

Lucky if you’re Chinese.

reply

Good Grief! I thought I was doing well with 353 (so far).

reply

I was just being impressed by MrMojo's 295 films & here you're like, 'those are rookie numbers. Gotta pump those numbers up'

reply

Very few movies and series watched here. OTOH, I have been watching a lot more YouTube content.

reply

Same! Most of the content I've consumed this year is just YouTube stuff.

I've honestly discovered some awesome content creators this year

Oh wait, that's not entirely true. I just remembered that I FINALLY got into anime this year. Watched a few (short) animes. None of those animes with 100+ episodes...yet
.

reply

Less films than normal because I elected to binge 9 seasons of Seinfeld.

reply

Time well spent, Seinfeld was a great show, some of the funniest stuff ever.

reply

Season 1 and 2 were a real slog. If it wasn’t for the fact that most reviews stated that it got better, I would’ve given up.

reply

Yeah, they didn’t really know what to do with the characters in the first couple of seasons.

But when the show hit it’s stride it was hilarious

reply

Season 3-8 just got better and better. Season 9 tailed off and I think they ended it at the right time.

reply

Less new releases than previous years. I've been re-watching a lot of old films. I'll probably do the same this year.

reply

The lockdowns of 2020 really helped me cross out the majority of the old movies on my lists

reply

I RARELY SEE MUCH NEW STUFF UNTIL IT IS NO LONGER NEW...BASED ON WANTING TO OWN IT BEFORE I WATCH IT USUALLY...I SAW A FEW.

reply

Do you just buy without knowing if it's good or bad? Or do you just buy the ones that interest you?

Personally, I only buy physical copies of films & shows that I've seen beforehand. Either on TV, streaming or on the big screen

Stuff that I've liked. Basically, if I enjoyed it, I gotta own it.

reply

I MOSTLY LIKE EVERYTHING...ALWAYS HAVE...30,000+ TITLES IN MY COLLECTION PROVES IT...AND AFTER 35 YEARS OF COLLECTING I HAVE A 90-95% SUCCESS RATE AT CHOOSING TITLES I WILL LIKE...I AM ALSO A RESELLER...SO I ONLY BUY TITLES FOR CHEAP PRICES TO START WITH AND I HAVE A WAY OF RECOUPING VALUE FROM NON WINNERS...MY OCD COMPELS ME TO GOTTA OWN IT ALL.

reply

So, just like Pokémon, you gotta catch 'em all, huh? Nice!

reply

I watched 295 films this year.

Mostly 60s-80s. Italy and USA being the country of origin for the most part. Horror, thriller and drama was my most watched genres. Most watched actor was Franco Nero and most watched director was Jess Franco.

LetterboxD has a really detailed personal stats page that can be broken down by year or lifetime.

reply

Wow, I'm genuinely impressed. Even on my best year, I can't even get close to that

reply

I try to watch at least one film a night after everyone else has gone to bed.

reply

I used to do that in my teen years but now, I'm just tired after coming home from work.

I just watch some YouTube or an episode or two of something.

reply

My most watched actor was Myrna Loy with 7 films. Herschell Gordon Lewis was my most watched director with 13 films, followed by Jesús Franco and Dario Argento with 7 films.

reply

I just can’t get into Herschell Gordon Lewis at all, but I’m delighted that Franco is on your directors list! I really only just went into Franco world this year and I already have a poster of Soledad Miranda on my wall. 😀

We need a post where LetterboxD users can share their stats.

reply

Agreed. You should create a post now for sharing stats.

You claim to be some kind of doctor, but don’t know the difference between “due” and “do.” Med school in Mexico?

reply

Dad, I thought we talked about boundaries...
