Why do more people (especially Americans) not own a bidet?

A bidet is a necessity for me. I feel grossed out not having one. Yuck!

My parents had one installed in there new bathroom suite, don't see the point in them myself.

I would think a Cottonelle would do a better job and apparently they have a flushable version now.

we just reach down and splash to terlet water over our privates. Same thing.
