I just suddenly quit mine a week ago, so no.
shareFor the most part yes, I greatly admire most of my coworkers and we do a great job helping poor families with children. A lot of poor immigrant families in the city are appreciative, hard working family -oriented types. We help a lot of South Americans and West Africans. It feels nice to help the newly arrived families.
The long commute and the sketchy Bronx parking are annoying as is the ridiculous amount of useless paperwork nobody ever looks at but whatever, it’s a decent living.
Why South Americans and West Africans in particular?
shareThose are the groups that are currently pouring into my section of the city. The South Americans tend to be strictly Catholic, the West Africans are mainly Muslim. It makes for some tension amongst the newly arrived.
I find myself being a peace-talking diplomat as much as anything else these days.
