🎄Christmas Tree done for this year🎄 [EDIT Nov 5th 2023]

Some of you may recall that we are abroad every December, so this is the only way my daughter gets to help put the tree up.

Last year I managed to leave to up until February 10th and February 13th the year before that. How long can I manage this year? I’ll be holding the annual sweepstake, lol.

February 1st unless you're out of the country then I say March 1st.

reply

Time to start thinking of a date.

reply

This has become an annual MC tradition, 'Guess When Andy Takes Down The Tree.'

Also, the SaveTheSeason poster is likely going to yell at you lol;)

reply

As far as SaveTheSeason is concerned, we fly out December 1st and return January 3rd - what can we do?

reply

AndyKing1967 seems like a nice guy. I wouldn't "yell" at him.

My disgust is directed towards the major retailers, the advertising industry and the media in general... anyone who puts greed, commercialism and materialism first.

I feel sorry for people who don't get to experience a traditional Christmas. The holidays are one of the few things left in this world to enjoy. Make the most of it all.

reply

Is it up yet?

reply

We did it this afternoon.

reply

That's a factor. She may just get sick of looking at it right after the new year. Pending any vacations you take, I think you're screwed this time around. February 1st that tree is coming down.

reply

We fly out December 1st and return January 3rd.

reply

February 23rd.

reply

I’ll do my best.

reply

I'll guess February 22nd.

reply

I will start the annual sweepstake thread soon.

reply

I remember helping the servants with the decorations, kind of like so

reply

It's blocked here ☹️

reply

It's a scene from Upstairs, Downstairs (1972). I fast-forwarded to where a teenage Lesley-Anne Down (I'm guessing 19) is helping the servants with the Christmas decorations. The good old days when they were British, not Eastern European ;)

reply

I remember watching some of it as a small child.

Quasimodo and I are the resident MC GD fans.

Pics?

Fascinating. Absolutely fascinating.

reply

Until we had a child, we just didn’t bother with decorations at all - we were never here, so there was no point.

reply

Is that a fake or real tree? I'm guessing a fake.

reply

100% fake.

reply

Fake is the way to go. Real gets messy.

reply

I have a fake tree in the casual Living Room, a real one we cut down at a tree farm every year in the Formal Living Room and an obnoxious flashing monstrosity for the back deck.

Real trees are VERY messy, I find I’m still sweeping up stray needles by late Spring.

Artificial all the way👍

reply

For the length of time I leave ours up, can you imagine what it would look like if it was real, lol.

reply

Very pretty!
I’m hoping you smash your record though February 13th is damned impressive!

And God Bless you patient Wife, she must get sick of your nonsense sometimes😁

reply

I don’t know how she puts up with me, lol.

reply

Very pretty!
What's the black rectangle thing on the wall?

reply

It’s a radiator.

reply

Pretty elegant looking for a radiator :)

reply

He's lying, it's the monolith from 2001.

reply

😁

reply

That's not in the movie. The film had a Sprite machine.

reply

We decided that our radiators should be nice to look at, as well as functional. The ones we have in our house are mostly from Italy and Germany.

reply

Seriously, this looks exactly like my dream home. I love the dark walls, the carpet and the wooden cabinet. Can I move in?

reply

I want to hire his housekeeper. That carpet looks like it hasn't even been walked on. The cabinet is immaculate.

reply

The perks of never being home.

reply

We have a ‘shoes off’ policy. The carpet is 5 years old and was replaced (as everything was) following the house fire.

Our cleaners come once a week for 2 hours; one is from Romania, the other from Poland.

The cabinet is from Harrods (it survived the fire), which we bought about 15 years ago.

reply

I forgot about the fire.

reply

Stereotypical I know, but Eastern Europeans seem to be harder working than English people 🤷‍♂️

Sadly, the ladies that come and do our cleaning may not look good wearing that ☹️

This is more accurate 😭

reply

We limit each room in the house to three colours.

reply

[deleted]

Very nice tree and decorations. I think you will have it down again in time for Valentine's Day.

reply

Thanks. When we travel, we try and bring a bauble back for the tree.

reply

Looks great.

reply

Thanks. It didn’t take too long with the three of us working as a team.

reply

Nice, easy work is the best kind

reply

Hands up if you’re more interested in Andy’s radiator! 🙋

reply

We’ve got about a dozen different unusual ones dotted around the house.

reply

Oh you tease! Get snapping.

reply

I might create a new thread.

reply

Through the Keyhole @KingTowers.

reply

Trouble is, I don’t want to upset people (you know what it’s like). Maybe I’ll just PM those that are genuinely interested 🤔

reply

Our house has hot water heat, but my radiators are the standard, garden variety type.

reply

I had this theory that radiators could be nice to look at too and could be thought of in the same way as furniture.

reply

LOL - Just a little avant-garde for the folks who renovated my 222 year old house house back at the turn of the last century, when I'm sure they modernized it with central heating.

reply

I can be a little pretentious at times.

reply

Well done, King family! It looks like Christmas around here today - we got a couple of inches of snow overnight. My tree will go up in a week or so. I'm in the process of painting my living room right now, so I'm not quite ready to haul it out.

reply

Snow is a rarity in ‘Sunny’ Bournemouth.

We only put the tree up for the sake of our daughter.

Good luck with the decorating.

reply

By the way, my sons are ready for their Manchester trip tomorrow. I mentioned to them (although they already knew) that they'd need an adaptor to charge their phones in UK. (It's a mom thing.)
I'd rather mention something they may already know, than not say anything and find out their phones died. I'm expecting to see some photos when they return.

reply

Hope they have a safe journey and that the weather is kind for them. Let them know that digital wallets are accepted almost everywhere.

reply

As I type this now, they're over the Atlantic, about an hour and a half from landing. This, of course, assumes that there were no flight delays, etc.

reply

They should be through immigration by now 🛂

reply

Let's hope so!

reply

Are you all on WhatsApp?

reply

No.

reply

It’s free and you can message and telephone users free worldwide, as long as you are connected to Wi-Fi.

reply

Looks lovely. Did you decorate it or your wife ?

If mine goes up it'll be the week before 🙄

reply

The three of us worked as a team - I got a step ladder so that Miss K could put the star on the top.

reply

😊
