First movie you saw on DVD

Mine was X-Men (2000), it came as a bonus with the first DVD player I bought back in the day, along with Moulin Rouge and Fight Club.

reply

I think mine was Lake Placid (1999).

reply

I saw that recently. If you haven't seen part 2, don't.

reply

Never seen Lake Placid. Is it worth checking out?

reply

I enjoyed it. It's a late 90s horrorish comedy. I don't think it's scary at all, but it is fun. Bette White has a small role in it that's pretty funny.

reply

Added to the watch list 🤙

The Matrix (1999)

reply

Great first DVD watch! I bet it was a thrill to see those effects in DVD quality.

reply

It's one my favorite movies. I got it as a Christmas present from my cousin who took me to see it in the theaters

reply

Nice! You’ll get no argument from me, it’s got a permanent spot in my top 50. I was living in Sydney when it was filmed and was in the area during the filming of the Martin Place scenes (the scene where they’re in the Matrix near the fountain).

I’m glad I got to experience it on the big screen for the first time though. It was mind blowing and really felt like a leap forward for cgi and sci-fi in general.

Gladiator (2000)

reply

Arguably the first one I SAW AS WELL. In early 2001. :)

reply

This is Spinal Tap (1984)

reply

One of my favourites.

reply

It might have been Starship Troopers (1997).

Either that or Asian Babes Vol. VIII.

reply

Dependable Andy! 😀

reply

“Either that or Asian Babes Vol. VIII.”

Was that the director’s cut?

reply

No idea, I normally only get to see about 5 minutes.

reply

😂😂😂😂

Oh god bless you Andrew. Funny bastard.

reply

I’m sure that at the climax there’s a happy ending.

reply

I think it was Matilda (1996)

It was certainly the first DVD my dad ever bought when he first bought a DVD player.

reply

I like that. I had that a generation earlier with Dad buying our first VHS and getting The Wizard of Oz and Benji and watching them until the tapes wore out.. and I could probably still recite all the lines 40 years later.

reply

It was either Mulholland drive or Neverending story

reply

I remember that "Mulholland Dr." didn't have any chapters.

reply

I remember being confused but in awe

reply

I bought "The Matrix" and "Almost Famous" the same day but don't recall which I saw first.
