If I lived in Las Vegas...

...I think I would end up eating at buffets almost every day. Buffets are just generally awesome and they really do them right out there.

reply

Heh...same here!

reply

Have you been there?

reply

Funny you ask that. I go there almost every year! It's like a second home, almost!

reply

Cool! Which are your favorites? I liked them all and I think the best were Wynn, Bellagio and Cosmopolitan. I also tried the Bacchanal Buffet at Ceasar's which has a huge variety of items, all excellent quality. Pricey ($70 or so) but worth it for an occasional splurge.

I haven't been in about 4 years, but my favorites were the Paris buffet and the Spice Market buffet at Planet Hollywood/Aladdin. I always thought the Rio buffet was overrated, but still good.

Bellaggio, Wynn, and Caesars have nicer stuff, but they're just too expensive for my taste. Never been to the newest places, Cosmopolitan, Aria, etc.

I don't know that I've ever been to a buffet at Mandalay Bay...

It's been a long time since the $3.95 steak and eggs.

I went to Paris for breakfast a couple of times and it was excellent. Mandalay Bay is very good, maybe one step down from the others I mentioned.

Before COVID, I ate at:

Mirage, Planet Hollywood, Aria, Bellagio, Flamingo, and some others.

But after COVID they all closed except Bellagio.

reply

Mirage itself was sold to the Hard Rock Hotel people, so that's probably why they haven't bothered re-opening the Cravings buffet. That was also a very good one.

Vegas is awesome
wish i was alive during the rat pack era and the old strip

reply

Yes, I think I would have enjoyed those days too.

reply

I like buffets, too, unfortunately the era of the inexpensive buffet has long since passed. It's going to be anywhere from $25 - $65 depending on the day of the week/time of day/fanciness of the casino.

Earlier this summer my daughter and I were traveling to Florida and while passing through the Mississippi gulf coast area we stopped at a casino just for the buffet. It was $50 each and while I had the all you can eat boiled shrimp and snow crab legs, she had chicken tenders. Yep, $50 for chicken tenders. Lol

reply

Definitely not inexpensive, though I've never tried locations off the Strip. It looks like some of what used to be cheaper options, like the buffet at Excalibur, have renovated/rebranded and increased prices. Still, I think most restaurants outside of the fast food space are going to be more than $27.99 per person.

Around six months ago I had a cheeseburger and fries at a downtown Reno casino (a nice one). Only water to drink. With tax and tip it was $20. It was very good, but I haven't gone back. Significantly more expensive than a few years ago.

Some cruise lines have absolutely fantastic buffets with a variety of international dishes. It's always my favorite part of going on a cruise.
