Do you use Uber?

I use it whenever I go out and have more than 2 drinks. I recently got a call from a friend who said his business partner/friend was stopped for a DUI, and is now facing a lot of problems. Uber is a life saver, quick, cheap and easy.

reply

Never.

reply

I don't. I don't like the business model. I don't usually drink so I have no issues there. I usually only take taxis in foreign countries.

reply

Hey, no I don't cause I'm kind of scared :(

reply

Update the reason I wrote this was a friend of a friend got stopped for DUI. I got another update last week on this, and its not good. So my advice is pay the 10$ for Uber and don't drink and drive.

I don't like Uber because of surge pricing. I know you can wait it out, but if you need to get somewhere, it can be ridiculous. The other day I was trying to help a tourist get from my work to his hotel. Our city had a concert happening that evening. Now this was about 1.5 hours before the start of the concert, but the surge pricing had already begun. He was quoted $95 from Uber. The same ride in a taxi would be $18.

Now I'm not saying that I'm a huge fan of taxis, but I think Uber is a scam. Especially knowing how little the drivers actually make, along with the wear and tear on their own vehicles. It's just not for me.

Ok so this might be a Canada thing . I've never had a problem here in the US. I've paid from 5$ to 12$ for 4 miles.

It's not just a Canadian issue

That first one, yikes! Sounds like that guy is lousy with math. I can't do 9.8 times X in my head, but I know enough to round it to 10 times X, which is a cinch.

reply

I think most of these incidences are when people are intoxicated. I think part of the complaint when the story first happened was that if they had just stated the price, they wouldn't have taken it, but after drinking, they knew it would be more, but couldn't do the math correctly.

reply

Probably so, and Uber should show the total before the rider can agree to the amount. Or maybe they do now?? Having never used it or even seen the app, I have no idea how it works. No one in my family or circle of friends has ever used it.

reply

A few times while on vacation, but living in a small town, I use the local taxi service. 2 beers is my limit for driving.

reply

I used it earlier in the year.

reply

No, and I never will. Like others have mentioned, I don't like their business practices. I'll stick to licensed cabs, although I very rarely need one.

reply

No, never and probably never will. I will have one drink at the beginning of a meal and drive, but that is the limit. I don't go out just to drink, but if I did it would be with a designated driver or I would have someone pick me up.

If I'm impaired enough not to drive, then I'm not hopping into a car with a stranger - bad choice for a woman, IMO.
