Actors/Actresses in really unexpected roles

I saw this trailer, and thought, David Spade as the evil guy. I kind of have to watch this.

I watched it today and I liked it. This is one those situation where you watch a movie just because one person is in it. I wanted to see if Spade could pull it off. He did. Its not a great movie, but its well done, and interesting.

If anyone can name another movie where David Spade is a true bad guy/killer, I'd be interested to know.

Alicia Silverstone in "The Killing of a Sacred Deer". She doesn't appear in the trailer unfortunately.

That trailer is extremely creepy/disturbing. I put it on my watchlist. I'll watch it when I'm feeling braver.

She's only in 1 or 2 scenes but it's definitely a creepy film.

Thats a good one. Around that time the big comedians started realizing they could do more than just the 3 stooges routine.

I think Robin Williams was the first with One Hour Photo. I'm not counting Good Will Hunting, or his other dramas, they were easy. I think One Hour Photo was the first time we saw that a serious comedian could break out.

Steve Carell - Foxcatcher

Foxcatcher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8361stZ8n0w

That is exactly what I'm talking about. I almost didn't recognize him. Its not my type of movie, but the trailer was compelling. This is one I would watch just to see Carell play out of character.

The movie itself was very good, Carell was really convincing. However, they took "based on real events" quite loosely. In my opinion, the real John du Pont according to Wikipedia was even more interesting.

Keanu Reeves played against his usual type in The Neon Demon (2016) as a seedy motel manager.

I don't think that's really out of his normal range, other than not playing the hero.

For me its like Leaving Las Vegas and Nick Cage, I watched his performance expecting something unique or different, but I just got Cage at his snarky best. I don't think Nick or Keanu have much range outside there usual fair. There both great , don't get me wrong, but stetching out of their comfort zone is not going to happen.

Anne Hathaway plays a villain in The Witches (2020).
