Movies so bad they are good…

Any suggestions for movies that are like the title says, so bad they are good? Action type flicks are great when they are way over the top too. I find it hilarious. 😊

Dune (1984)

Good example

I never got the hate for Dune. I thought it was great then and I think it's great now too. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

reply

May I request a Dune gif of some sort?

That was such a dreadful scene. I have t seen Dune since I was a kid, but that part is one of the ones that stuck with me.

So bad it's great!! 👍👍

Love it!! 👍👍👍👍

Most of Dune 84 is great, the imagery is amazing and often disturbing, loads of cool ideas and memorable characters. It just falls down in the last act when the pacing gets choppy and they didn’t have the effects to pull off the final battle.

I’d pick Lynch’s Dune over Villeneuve’s miserable, bland borefest any day.

Riki-Oh: Story of Ricky (1991)
Samurai Cop (1991)
Street Fighter (1994)
Birdemic (2010)
Machete (2010)
Singham (2011)
Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017)

reply

Machete was so bad, that it was awful.

reply

If it was awful it wouldn't get a sequel. Now, that sequel was truly awful.

reply

BRAWL IS JUST GOOD...NO BAD INVOLVED.

reply

No way a movie depicting a man finghting a car can be considered a gpod movie. A MAN, FIGHTING A CAR!

TOO BAD THE CAR DIDN'T HIT BACK.

reply

GREAT MOVIE EVEN.👍🏾

reply

Yeah, it's so bad it's good.

reply

I VIOLENTLY DISAGREE.🙂

reply

Yes to Street Fighter, it's awfully good.

reply

Raul Julia saved the movie.

reply

He was definitely a big plus.

reply

For Street Fighter (1994), the day Raul Julia graced the set was the most important day of the movie. But for him, it was Tuesday.

reply

Yeah everyone came to set prepared to fight a madman, but instead they found a god.

Plan 9 from Outer Space, the king of bad movies

Troll 2 (1990) - Basically the film equivalent of the band The Shaggs. They are both freaking train wrecks, but they are so earnest in their efforts, they both grew on me. Although it was Rifftrax-ed, I was turned on to this glorious PoS from the documentary about it called Best Worst Movie (2009), great doc. in its own right.

reply

Ohhh my God!!!!!!

reply

:D Oh, and how could I forget this beaut often mentioned by an old horror board user Corpus_Vile (iirc, he used a quote from it as his sig):

Wild beasts - Belve feroci (1984) - It's an absolute riot.

reply

I’ve watched many YouTube trailers of Wild Beast over the years, but I’ve never seen the movie.

I’m thinking if you call it a “beaut” it’s got to be good. I’ll add it to my watch list.

reply

Cheers! While I am a fan of MST3K/Rifftrax and having a laugh at crappy movies, I will still usually rate them (well) under 5/10 out of principle. The two I mention here actually earned 6/10s from me based on sheer entertainment value. There is little chance I'd revisit an Ed Wood or Tommy Wiseau film unless there was a very good reason, but these two hold up (or down, as it were) surprisingly well imo.

reply

I have a slew of films I would consider in that way. In fact, I own the DVD for most of the ones I listed in this thread. Wild Beast I’ll be watching soon and Troll 2 is usually an every other year or so watch for me.

reply

Most of Bruno Mattei’s films fit this category, but especially so in the 80’s.

Hell of the Living Dead (1980)
Women’s Prison Massacre (1983)
Rats: Night of Terror (1983)
Strike Commando (1986)
Robowar (1988)
Zombie 3 (1988)
Strike Commando 2 (1988)
Shocking Dark (1989)

Also his Jaws rip off is one of the most entertaining I’ve seen.

Cruel Jaws (1995)

I have the DVD or Blu-ray for most of these. 😀

reply

Wow. Not sure how his name could ring a bell, yet I have none of his films rated on IMDb. I've seen my fair bit of Italian schlock, exploitation, cannibal and Hollywood rip-offs (Alien 2, sulla Terra being one of the only 1/10 ratings I've awarded) so perhaps I saw some of his films before I started keeping track in the mid-aughts. Will keep an eye out.

reply

I don't think it's for you but I just watched one two weeks ago.

The Gong Show Movie (80)

It is such a "low wattage" (brain power to watch) silly movie that if you've had a stressful week at work or you are braindrained, the movie is quite soothing.

It is my new go-to "so bad it's good" movie.

reply

The entire Sharknado franchise.

Cats (2019). Just rewatched it with friends yesterday and we were all screaming with laughter.

reply

I still don't know what a Jellicle cat is.

reply

No. Cats is just bad.

It’s also a 1-song show: Memories.
Andrew Lloyd Webber almost destroyed Broadway all on him bitty own.

reply

I watched it for the first (and only) time just the other day, and personally felt the so bad it's good thing only applied to the first 20 minutes or so. Once I was over the shock of just how alarmingly ill-judged every single aspect of it was, it seemed to slump into a tedious and interminable chore for the rest of its runtime.

But I'm glad other people get more of a kick out of its utter wrongness. Perhaps the chuckles would've kept coming had I watched it with friends.
