What’s the most disturbing film you’ve ever seen?

For me it’s either Cannibal Holocaust or Born on the Fourth of July

reply

Under The Skin (2013) and the most disturbing film ever A Serbian Film (2010) - I stopped in the middle out of disgust.

reply

I really want to see A Serbian Film is there a streaming service I can view it on?

reply

Just don't do it.
This is the best advice I can give you.

It is not even a good movie. just disturbing.

reply

I am a fan of the human centipede would I like a Serbian film?

reply

I don't knew, never watched human centipede.

reply

It was on YouTube for a long time but looking now it’s no longer there

You might try to order an overseas copy, it’s really very good and yep, it’s very disturbing

*ETA: there are a lot of awful scenes of violence but towards the end of the film it really crosses a line that is just beyond nasty…it’s possibly the worst thing ever filmed
You may not want to see this, it’s up to you

reply

Probably Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989). Either that, or Eraserhead (1977).

reply

Oh yeah, David Lynch is a mater of disturbia! The recent third season of Twin Peaks had some extremely unsettling moments.

reply

I don't consider most "disturbing" movies worthwhile, and usually the most disturbing thing about them is how pointless they are. But, my favorite movie of all time is Bad Boy Bubby, which starts out like a disturbing movie.

reply

Probably a Serbian Film.

Men Behind the Sun (1988), and The Girl Next Door (2007) both disturbed me because of the real life situations they are based on.

reply

I haven’t seen those but I did read quite a lot about Unit 731 and it’s the thing nightmares are made of.

reply

Yeah, when I lived in Austria I did some touring and I went to Dachau in Germany, and knowing that they did medical experiments there I thought I'd have an idea of what to expect with Men Behind the Sun. I didn't. That was something else. I knew nothing about it going in.

reply

That had to be quite an experience going to Dachau.

If I remember correctly, the guy who ran Unit 731 was not charged because he offered up all the results of the experiments to the USA. So horrible.

reply

The thing I remember most was an old man who I guess went there everyday and sat on this bench in the wooded area where there were mass graves and just told anyone who wanted to listen about what happened to him when he was imprisoned there. The image just really stuck in my brain because if you didn't know where you were you'd think you were in a park or something. The scenery was really pretty.

reply

It feels like I’ve either seen a trailer or part of it. Do you recommend it?

reply

I can't recommend it. It is disturbing. If you like those types of movies, then yeah, watch it, but it's not something I would recommend.

reply

Oh yes I saw The Girl Next Door on Netflix. I was expected torture porn where the torture would be awesome like in Hostel or Human Centipede (that’s what I like), but this was just downright heartbreaking. The part where she’s about to die and she just asks for her mother’s ring back that was devastating. But at least Ruth died, the boys went to jail and the sister was saved.

reply

Yeah, it was tough because the true story was worse.

reply

I'm going to have to go with Martyrs (2008). That movie left me feeling sick for days.

reply

That is what I was going to add, I liked the movie though.

reply

Come and See (1985)

reply

That’s one of my favorite films. Horrible and beautiful at the same time and definitely my favorite WWII film.

reply

I'd like to see it again, but I'm not sure if it streaming anywhere.

I think I originally saw it years ago with a free trial on the Criterion Channel

reply

Yep, it’s only currently streaming on Criterion Channel.
