It's 2022, and 12 year olds can be legally wed in America

What the hell? With parental consent, and it varies by state to state.

I learned this in school and we all couldn't believe it.

How do you feel about these laws?

reply

who makes these laws??

its truly insane the dumbshit stuff I see recently

reply

Well it comes from an era when adolescents might have sex and the boy was expected to make an honest woman of the soon to be mother, so 12 year old brides was okay in those circumstances.

Also many basically started adulthood at 14 when they went off to work. Life expectancy 150 years ago was in your 40s. So shorter lifespan means no time to waste.

reply

well, honestly, I think our modern society is all messed up about age anyway. not going to call anything "right" or "wrong", just "is how it is" in that people (kids) are going to have sex when they have sex. stats 55% have sex before age 18, and the other 45% probably want to but are taught guilt or something against their natural instinct. normal human action is why this occurs, not because kids are stupid, or parents didn't raise them right etc etc etc

not saying young marriage is right, but we should take a look at how slanted our society is AWAY from "family". where I could have finished school at 15 and gotten a job (got a job at that age anyway!), but am forced to stay in school until 18, or even longer in college - where I mess around with many drunk women instead of being with the girl I fell in love with earlier in life - before starting life - when I could have had a job, a wife, and a child to love - and FOCUS on that, instead of being indoctrinated to be in a rat race of chasing money until I die.... I think our system is unforgiving and wrong, and against our own human nature, for greed and profit sake.

but yeah, we have rules and laws with moving goal posts that confuse everyone. 18 is kind of messing up a lot of things in society. if MORE people fell in love, and sex from 16 to 18, got married, had a kid and loved them, and had responsibilites, they might even be more FAMILY oriented and respect their elders, and work to help them, rather than working for more money, raises, nicer crap, beating the other guy.... it would be a whole different shift of focus.

I've always wondered why the minimum age for females is frequently lower than males. 🤷‍♀️

reply

I guess when these laws were made it was to protect their honor. Maybe a boy could become a provider at 14 in the olden days.

reply

It may be part of that "girls are more responsible than boys" bullshit, and I call it bullshit because girls aren't more responsible than boys, they just aren't allowed to get away with as much. Or such differences as exist may be based on the expectation that the male in a het relationship should be older than the female, or maybe just for the convenience of pervy straight men.

The age of consent is 18 in my state. Tough shit, pervs!

What a shock that it’s YOU raising this particular issue on the forum 🙄

Classic Intothenight post, always fascinated by any topic involving minors. If you were any more transparent we’d be hanging curtains around you.

reply

From the link in the OP:

"California and Mississippi do not have minimum ages for minors to be allowed to marry with parental consent."

reply

I wonder what would happen if a grown man tries to marry a child?

reply

In California, if an 18-year-old "man" has sex with a 17-year-old "girl" he goes to jail for statutory rape. There's no defense, even if she admits she showed him a fake ID that said she was 18.

reply

That should be a fine.

There's a county, somewhere in the Deep South, where nobody ever bothered to enact laws limiting marriage to adults, and adults can legally marry kids of 14 and up. It's become a destination for pervs and pedos, and while there's a push to change the law, there's also a push to keep it because the pedos are a source of local revenue.

Personally, I think the county clerk's office ought to save a desk for an FBI officer, someone who can note the names and address of anyone who marries a kid of 14, and make sure they're arrested when they leave the county.

reply

Legally married means you can consumate, right?

reply

And why would you want to know that?

reply

My point is that you couldn't arrest them in another state as they're legally married in the USA. Their marriage would supercede age of consent laws because they relate to unmarried people.

reply

I believe that would depend on what the laws were in wherever the pedo happened to be, and how willing the local law enforcement would be to enforce them.

reply

Massachusetts? Well, that's interesting...and disgusting.

reply

IT'S2022 IT IS TIME TO STOP REPEATING THE YEAR LIKE IT MEANS SOMETHING.

IF TWO 12 YEAR OLDS CAN FUCK AND START A FAMILY WHY NOT LET THEM GET MARRIED?
