Man found dead under car was trying to steal catalytic converter

A Wake County man was likely trying to steal valuable parts from a disabled car before getting stuck underneath the car and dying earlier this week, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Officials believe Joshua Larry Diehl, 50, noticed a disabled Toyota Camry at the intersection of U.S. 64 and Debnam Road near Zebulon sometime on Sunday night. Officials said they think Diehl was trying to steal the car’s catalytic converter when the jack he was using malfunctioned, pinning him underneath the car, sheriff’s office spokesperson Eric Curry said in a news release.

Crime doesn’t pay, get a job

reply

It would be easier getting a job than leading a life of crime.

Quite true…slow and steady wins the race

Work is a bitch but it isn’t THAT bad

Exactly!

Crime pays very well, that's why so many people choose to be criminals rather than work for minimum wage.

You make a good point but at least if you have a job you won't be facing years in prison if caught.

reply

A lot of criminals get caught and prosecuted or get murdered by co-conspirators

I’ll be at my normal person job pretty early tomorrow morning as usual

No thank you to prison time or a trip to the bottom of The Hudson River

And you'll be constantly hovering on this board, posting while on your employer's time, Mr. Industrious, so you're no less of a thief. I'll bet you're also the type that constantly sneaks off for extra cigarette breaks, another rip off of the employer.

That’s just it. Crime pays; and cybercrime pays VERY well. The average take for a bank robbery is not quite $32,000, usually split 2 ways, and the likelihood of apprehension and severe sentences is high. The typical cybercrime against, say, a major corporation has an average take of $2.5 million, probably not split at all. The downside threat to the offender is much lower than it is to the pistol-packing cowboys.

The odds of getting shot and killed by the shotgun-toting Pakistani owner when being an idiot and trying to rob a convenience store are REALLY bad.

If you want to live a little less dangerously, become an Adult Entertainment producer. The ROI on a typical Adult movie is 3,000 percent. That is not a typo.

“Unfortunately, these types of thefts are on the rise,” Wake County Sheriff Gerard Baker said in the release. “This is a national problem, partly due to the increased value of the precious metals in the part.”

Exactly this. Watch your car especially if you own a Prius.

Is this saying the vehicle had been disabled, or that it was a vehicle for use by a disabled person?

reply

The car identifies as a disabled.
