Actors you thought were going to be "a thing" but you were completely wrong about.

Michelle Ryan. She was in the short lived "Bionic Woman" show. She was a decent actress and was hotter than Satan falling into a volcano while eating a jalapeño pepper. I thought she would be big just on her looks alone but she never did anything big afterwards.

Aidan Turner. He was sort of big in Ireland. I saw him in "Being Human" but he left the show to do "The Hobbit" movies. He even had the movie star look that the ladies would love. I thought he would be a huge star but I was completely wrong.

Dillon Freasier. He was the kid in "There Will be Blood". He held his own opposite Daniel Day-Lewis. How was I supposed to know he was going to be in nothing afterward? Literally not a single thing.

Paul Walter Hauser. He was brilliant in "Richard Jewell". I thought he was going to get an Oscar nomination. He didn't and has been in mediocre movies since.

Brilliant in Home Alone 2.

Lucy Liu - I was never a fan but they were pushing her for a while but I don't think she has the charisma to appeal to that many people. Her features were always harsh as well.

reply

They never pushed Lucy Liu. It's just there were not many choices of Asian American actresses available.

reply

Never needed to push Lucy Liu - she was a hit in Ali McBeal, the biggest show of the time, and everything else followed. Personally she is someone I'd watch a show for.

reply

She seemed to go down hill after Ally McBeal and Charlie's Angels though. I thought she was a bad choice for Watson in Elementary. That said the show itself sucked.

reply

I liked Lucy Liu in Elementary but I have to admit there is nothing memorable between it and Kill Bill. Perhaps she needs to find a sci-fi niche like Ming Na Wen and Michelle Yeoh have done in recent years?

reply

She would be good for Sci Fi she has harsh facial features and mannerisms. I just went through her films and TV shows and there seems to be a lot of voice work. I was unaware of her before Ally McBeal so I was surprised she started her career in 1991 on Beverly Hills 90210 I either didn't see that ep or I just don't recall her being on it.

reply

But where is Kelly Hu now?

reply

Kelly Hu is a puzzlement to me. She randomly pops up and I know that I know her but can never remember anything specific she has been in.

reply

I think her highest profile role was in The Scorpion King in 2002. Followed by X-Men 2 in 2003 then she's gone.

Aneurin Barnard. I think he has the looks and talent, and a while back (Hunky Dory 2011, Legend 2015) I thought he was on the way.
Ruta Gedmintas. I thought she was great in Lip Service 2010 but seems to have been consumed by the grinder process of long running American TV series.
Most of the young actresses who were very striking as the lead in some BBC literary adaptation which turned out to be the high point of their career.

Chloe Grace Moretz.

I really though she was gonna be big, from her early stuff but she has settled into mediocrity. A few stinkers, too.

reply

I saw a movie she did last year where she was a fighter pilot in the war and it was atrocious.

reply

Didn't see the film but from the looks of it sounds like a very unlikely plot and Chloe a poor choice of actress for the role.

reply

She definitely tries, but she's really bad.

Andi Eystad

Michael Pitt

played that creepy sociopath really well in funny games and a memorable law and order svu episode.

apparently difficult to work with

reply

He was getting a lot of work before, but not much since Boardwalk Empire ended.
