Why do people pretend like cooking is so hard?

People Basically you're saying" I don't have the ability to follow simple instructions"

It's not that hard if you follow the recipe and pay attention to what you're doing.

I think the people who burn food a lot are doing that because they leave the room (or yack away on the phone) and very stupidly neglect the stove or other cooking device they're using. They could also be a very busy parent with multiple kids in the house and they can't keep track of the recipe they're working on. In some cases, some people just don't have a fundamental understanding of how the ingredients work, and you end up with food that is either inedible or tastes horrible. In some cases, you've got a dumbass hypocrite who cooks "health" food that tastes like crap based on a shitty crash diet recipe they found on the internet. Either that, or their memory is horrible and they keep doing the same mistake over and over again.

My mom kept setting off the fire alarms in our house because she refused to get a better toaster besides the cheap crappy Mickey Mouse one we had, she kept forgetting and wanting her toast, and despite her best efforts with the controls, it only had one setting: burn the toast black with smoke. Incidentally, when she got sick, dad and I threw that POS toaster out and got a $30 one that has been working beautifully ever since. (Always good to invest in your toaster, you won't regret it for 5 years or more).

There are two types of people who cook. Those who can more or less follow a series of instructions (like me). And those who can taste something, know what's missing and take it to a much higher level (not me).

Cooking ain’t hard at all. My mama tole me so.

I have always been lazy in the kitchen but in the last months I have "dared " to cook something and....I have enjoyed it.

I think most people are too lazy to do it. It can be a bit of work to make a quality meal and it requires cleanup afterwards. Popping a meal in the microwave takes a minute and doesn't require cleaning. Food delivery apps will deliver food to your door in thirty minutes. There are many complex techniques that are hard to master but everybody should be able to make a basic soup/stew or a burger.

You are SO judgemental. Back off bro, not my fault if I can’t make a grilled cheese and a soup without messing one of the two up.

Our species has used technology to overcome natural selection. We’re burdened by a lot of people who would otherwise not be part of the population. They bitch that “cooking is hard,” among other bitch-topics.

Certain types of cooking are difficult. Also, having the main dish and all it's sides ready at the same time for a big family meal requires more than just following simple instructions. Not everyone can make dishes as delicious as they are in some restaurants because they don't have all of the ingredients, don't have the proper equipment, nor do they have the experience/knowledge it takes to determine if many different things are done correctly in a timely fashion. Even the basics of grilling a steak (which is about as simple as it comes), it takes experience from grilling many different steaks to determine the temperature of a steak by pressing it with your thumb.
