Why are so many people quitting their jobs?
Well?

Quitting what? MovieChat? Their jobs?
shareBasically, "burnout". At the beginning of pandemic when people were spending time at home with their families, they started to reimagine what life would be like if their working conditions were better.
It's because the pandemic made people realize how shitty their jobs really are and that employers don't give a shit about them.
I believe we're now in a employee's market. It's the workers who have the leverage now. They demand flexibility, better pay, childcare, better treatment, etc.
Exactly. If given a chance to work at home, I would do it. No more time wasted commuting. No more having to put up with idle blathering, gossip, petty rules and office politics.
shareYep. This pandemic made people realize all that. So many people doing remote work nowdays.
Some people are becoming self-employed now. Many cases, it isn't even that hard. Sure beats working for someone else.
Not only shitty jobs. I have a great job, but it was wonderful to roll-out of bed at 9am and walk two feet to turn on the laptop for work. No commute. Saved a ton. Freedom and tranquility.
Now, I'm back. Practically, everyone who can retire has left.
Covid.
There are four different groups:
1. Workers retiring to avoid covid.
2. Low-paid workers who don't believe crappy pay and working conditions are worth the covid risks.
3. Workers who enjoyed the freedom and tranquility from working at home and have reassessed their life.
4. Workers who want to return, but can't find childcare or adult care for a family member because of the labor shortage.
Plenty of desperate immigrants and migrants who want to work. I don't know why there's a problem.
I believe your point #3 is by far the biggest reason.
And it's not because Americans are "lazy and entitled" and collecting checks from the government. They've had enough of being treated poorly by their employers! This poor treatment has been ongoing on for decades now. I sense a revolution.
I don't. I hope I'm wrong.
shareHow are they paying their bills?
share I don't know why there's a problem.
Because those people arnt contributing to society anymore.
which , under the current system, is bad
...for them mainly
i think some people who were working from home took the opportunity to job hunt.
shareLots of people rather retire than deal with new tech, new business practices, or increase in demand of work. Some businesses downsizing so letting people retire early. Few others choosing not to get vaccinated when required by employer so would rather quit than deal with the hassle of constantly getting tested.
shareI worn in an extremely "essential" field, and about half the people who were there at the start of 2020 have left, largely because of misery and burnout. Those who can retire have retired, those who have found other jobs have taken the other jobs, and if I hadn't spent 6 months dealing with a broken leg I'd probably be gone, too.
However, I have hopes of leaving soon, because yeah. The "Great Resignation" is opening up all sorts of jobs, I'm going to take a safer position as soon as I can.
I don't know anyone who quit their job
