Rate The Last Movie You Saw

And anything else you want to add.. It's a great way to find movies, based on the score, but also on who has seen it.

Private Property - 6/10

This was on TCM, and I have an automatic recording for Michelangelo Antonioni. I saw this already, and it's probably my favorite of his, with "Il Gido" ("The Passenger" is cool, and so is Jack Nicholson), but some of his movies are so... they might be your favorite movies, lol.

Because I saw this before, I wasn't 100% focused, and would check an e-mail I'm expecting, or whatever, but I think it's better than watching bullshit, like TV news, although I probably dedicate less than an hour a week. I do love to randomly turn on the three major news channels, watch until a commercial, and then check the next one. Just to see what they think is important to their sponsors and viewers.

Speaking of, that is the best scene of the movie. Bunch of stockbrokers engage, and before trading begins, there's a voice-over on the intercom, letting everyone know one of the managers had just passed away. "Let's have a minute of silence" - and then you hear a million bells going off, which summarizes the entire movie, and "post-modernity", where people are dehumanized (early 60s) and bought off by materialism.. Many people have a lot of money, but they're depressed and miserable. They're bored. And some might say his movies are boring for this exact purpose. I don't think so, but then again, I like those who spit at The Establishment, and will be self-indulgent. There should be room for every kind of director. I prefer something unique than a movie I've seen 40 times (a xerox of another xerox).

Up Periscope! (1958) for some reason I went into this thinking it was going to be a comedy, but it's a fairly straight forward WWII drama with the always likeable James Garner, Edmond O'Brien, Alan Hale who played the Skipper on Gilligan's Island, and the gorgeous Andra Ward, an enjoyable film but not one of the great sub films 6/10

very good movie.

the perpetual close-ups and tight focus on the lead actress made me a bit uncomfortable at times. it's like someone constantly invading my personal space.

but this is a great, shambolic, messy portrait of someone who has a lot of trouble doing things most people are able to do easily.

for reasons i won't bother boring you with, i felt very sympathetic to this woman.

bit like a cassavete's film but with a tidy 75m running time.

highly recommended.

The Gorgeous Hussy (1936) Joan Crawford, Lionel Barrymore, James Stewart - a pretty good period film, it seems like it should be much longer, the scenes are short and covers a lot of time and events, I really liked the young actor playing Bow so full of energy and I was shocked to learn he was the same actor who played the lifeless lawyer in Party Girl, Crawford is very good and never looked better 7/10

Mean Girls (2004) - 7/10. Not bad, and I liked Lindsey Lohan. Will now check her out in Freaky Friday.
