Your “go-to feel-good” movies eh?

That aren’t family movies eh?

Mine:

Friday 1995

Multiplicity 1996

Bio-Dome 1996

Pretty much any Jackie Chan movie

Forrest Gump 1994

Half baked 1998

Nothing to lose 1997

AirHeads 1996

I really liked Jojo Rabbit, it was clever, made a good point about our young impressionable childhood years and was laugh out loud funny

I greatly enjoyed the character of chubby little Yorki slogging off into battle not understanding anything but fully committed

Great little movie

The lampooning of foolish ideology could apply to any era and the Hitler performance was hilarious

reply

Nice description. I rated it 7.5 but expected a bit more of it. I’ll have to rewatch. (Own it on DVD)

reply

Thanks!
I'm on Team Taika Waititi, he's done some cool stuff, I'll look out for this guy for sure

reply

Me too! For real, for real.

The Blues Brothers (1980)

The Muppets Christmas Carol (1992) anytime of the year

Dazed and Confused (1993)

Empire Records (1995)

The Girl Next Door (2004)

Just Friends (2005)

Serenity (2005)

I love Multiplicity btw. My favourite Michael Keaton movie

reply

Dazed And Confused was a good call, I wish I had thought of that

Soundtrack, relatable scenes, the stupidity of youth we all know about, great cars..!

Terrific movie

reply

When the intro of "Sweet Emotion" starts playing, it's like a musical security blanket. I know what's coming next and I love it!!

reply

When i first read this I thought of a different Girl Next Door. That one takes you into the very darkest aspects of human nature. I was like damn.

Then I looked up the title and remembered there was another movie by that title that came out a little earlier. Much, much different.

reply

Were you thinking of the '08 movie? No thanks😬😄

reply

Based on a Jack Ketchum novel which I read and was based on an actual case...horrid stuff

I'll likely not watch that again

reply

That's the one. Yeah. There are horror movies I'll watch that are dumb fun that I'll watch to escape reality a little bit, but that one isn't it.

reply

Agreed, this one was unrecognizable madness

reply

I thought of putting Dazed and confused but last time I watched it, it lost some of its impression on me. (After at least half a dozen viewings)

Nice to see Empire records. I like it too. Another one I could’ve put is AirHeads

reply

Really? That's kinda sad to hear. I watch it a few times a year and it never gets old (thankfully)
All the other movies on my list I have seen over 20 times. Those numbers definitely ramped up during lockdown.

reply

I saw Friday over 50 times
Biodôme about 20 Times
Multiplicity a good dozen of times

reply

Okay I just realized something big.

For at least 10 years I had Blues Brothers on my watchlist because every time I saw someone mention it, it was positive. I just haven’t been able to bring myself to watch it yet AND all along, I thought people were talking about the 1998 movie because I didn’t even know there was an older one!

Let me change my watchlist right now!

reply

I am in absolute disbelief!!😮
You need to make amends for this egregious oversight immediately!!

Thunder Alley 1985 free on line.. Its a story of a likeable hick guitar player Roger Wilson joining a band and falling in love with Jill Schoelen. Its also nice to see Clancy Brown who played Captain Hadley in Shawshank play a memorable good guy.

reply

paddington - both films are great, but 2 in particular can put a skip in my step
sing street
paterson
love and friendship
dude bro party massacre

reply

The Paddington films are better than they have any right to be. Speaking as someone who mostly doesn't care for family friendly or sappy films, these films were such an absolute delight

Got 'em for my lil siblings who were so bored. Wasn't even planning on watching any of it. Just planned on using my phone the entire time but they just grabbed me & I had way more fun than I thought possible.

reply

paddington 2 is legitimately one of my favourite movies. it is a goddamned perfect movie to me.

i may or may not cry at the end every time i watch it. i'm not verifying that, but if someone tells you i do, they may not be lying.
