Do you think using profanity is wrong and why?


Personally for me, I don't see why it's wrong at all. We're taught it's wrong, but I've never been told why it's supposedly wrong. What makes a profane word worse than another word that means the exact same thing? They're just synonyms. It's a taboo for no real reason that's perpetuated for no real reason. It's a paradox.

You will occasionally see stand-up comics commenting on the use of profanity in their, or others, acts. Some think that resorting to profanity is the mark of a lazy comic. I almost always agree with that.

Doesn't bother me. I think it's all about how it's used or overused that can make a person using it sound unintelligent, but otherwise it's just language and it suits various purposes. I do think it should be used sparingly around kids because it's main purpose is to insult others at an adult level. But I don't think the elderly really need to be coddled, as anyone 70 years and over was raised during some pretty revolutionary times, so I doubt coarse language is even offensive to them.
