Do you like dogs?
I dig em.... Siberian huskies. π
shareUh yeah I grew up with dogs. Ideally I want a dog and a cat in the near future. I am bothered that too many people view their pets like their own kids.
shareI'm not a pet person, and would never own one. But I do have admiration for service animals that aid the disabled, or search-and-rescue dogs that help locate missing people.
What I don't like is hearing owners refer to their dogs as their "kids" or speaking to them in baby-talk. There is no such thing as a "pet parent;" the correct designation is "pet owner." And you don't "adopt" dogs, you purchase them. You adopt a child.
It's dangerous to anthropomorphize pets. They are animals that function solely on instinct, not reason. People can't seem to grasp this, and then wonder why their children get mauled by pit bulls. They've been watching too many sitcoms and Disney movies.
Iβve had dogs since childhood and I doubt Iβll ever be without one.
Right now I have a German Shepard, a Rat Terrier and a mutt who I think might have boxer in her.
i like dogs a lot, though i've never had one. i just don't have the kind of life where i think i'd be able to do all the things you need to do to care for one properly. maybe when i'm fully retired, depending on what kind of place i end up in.
shareYes, dogs are great for security
I've had several but they are a great deal of work
Lovely beasts overall, the wife and kids want one but I'm not saying 'yes' because everyone knows who get's the dog-walking and clean-up work
They're great for many reasons. If your children are old enough to handle walking a dog, it's a great opportunity to teach them about responsibility. Even if they are younger, they can be charged with filling the food bowl and making sure there is always fresh water in the water bowl.
You strike me as an ideal dog owner. Frankly, I'm surprised that you are hesitant.
I'm sort of fussy about my house, pet hair on the furniture and paw scratches on my wood floors would drive me bananas
I like my home 'just so'
I had a big disagreement with my Dad quite a few years ago, he wanted to visit for a couple days and said he'd bring his dog and also his second wife
I told him 'sure, but your dog will sleep in the garage, I'll throw down a packing blanket and some old pillows for it..'
This did NOT go over well
I have not seen the man in years! He's a good sort though, a fine fellow
YOUR WIFE AND KIDS ARE AWESOME...YOU ON THE OTHER HAND SUCK THE BIG ONE...DRINK LESS TECATE GET MORE DOGS.πβπ¦Ίπ
shareMy wife and kids are the best people I know, I'm entirely undeserving of their love and company
I am pretty much the worst
And for THE LAST TIME I DON'T DRINK TECATEπ€¬
I don't dislike dogs but I think the way pets are used as almost a substitute for meaningful human relationships is pathological. The human race would do better to look to itself for its emotional needs rather than finding inappropriate substitutes. But then perhaps the human race itself is pathological and it's a hopeless case.
WE ARE A DISTORTION...AN ANIMAL WITH JUST ENOUGH HIGHER BRAIN FUNCTION TO THINK BEYOND INSTINCT.
sharei don't think there's anything pathological about our relationships with dogs.
we have a very unique relationship with them, & there's something very special about the kind of bond we've formed through selective breeding. it's something that should be appreciated & respected.
As I posted above, I can't stand listening to people refer to a pet as their "baby." This may or may not be pathological, but I find it disturbing. I cringe every time I see someone allow their dog to lick their face, thinking they are receiving "kisses." It's unsanitary and equivalent to someone spitting in your face.
I don't like these terms like "pet parent" or "pet adoption." Parenting and adoption applies to children, not animals. The most ridiculous thing I've ever seen was a Fathers Day card with the salutation "To my doggie daddy..." "from" the dog. Animals don't send greeting cards.
I've been noticing more of this behavior in recent years. It now seems to be obligatory to include a dog in commercials. I'm not talking about pet food ads, which would be appropriate, but commercials for vehicles, furniture, or other items that have absolutely nothing to do with pets. Who keeps pushing this? The Humane Society? PETA? I'd like to know.
Well, there was (thankfully, departed) someone here, user name "doggiedaddy" who was most definitely pathological! I think that Keelai thing is him now, though.
