Anyone feel bad for actors when their career dries up?

Anyone you genuinely mourned the loss of their hey-day?

reply

No, not very much

I do miss some actors who died before their time though

Patrick Swayze should have been in many more pictures, that guy had charisma, he was a boss on-screen but some illness got him...just horrible and sad

reply

No he turned 40 and his looks declined. He wasn't a good actor, only likeable, so when he started to look older he wasn't bankable.

Plus he turned down a bunch of good movies and burnt his bridges.

reply

Swayze was awesome, how dare you besmirch him!!?

Pistols or knives at sunrise, beneath the old Oak tree mister!

reply

ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THAT IS EVENLY REMOTELY TRUE.πŸ€”

reply

Swayze was cool

And probably way better looking than Intothenight and the rest of us

He probably could have gotten a gig at Chippendales

reply

I ACTUALY JUST FINISHED READING HIS BIOGRAPHY...ON MY TOILET.πŸ™‚

reply

That was way more info than anyone needed buddy...well done

reply

I READ A LOT OF BIOGRAPHIES...DOZENS AND DOZENS...ALL ACTORS,COMEDIANS,SINGERS...ALL ON MY TOILET....RIGHT NOW IM READING JOHNNY CARSON ON MY TOILET.

I'm actually never sorry you jerkfaceπŸ˜„

You should be on MC every day multiple times...I need to wait around all week to hear from one of my favorite guys?

Post more stuff, let's get the band back together

You Jerk

reply

I don’t want to be in your crappy band for jerks . You make me play tambourine . Which I hit you with

reply

You play a mean cowbell and that's why you are the coolest

reply

Everything needs more cowbell . Cowbell is what sells records

reply

I can't stand you but I agree on the Cowbell, the world deserves more cowbell

reply

You can be in my band . Just stand in the back

reply

But I'm the handsome guy, I should be up front!

Oh stop it!

I like to derail a couple of threads a week, it's pretty amusing

I rarely recall the OP...it's just silly fun

reply

STEEL DAWN!

reply

Nope, not at all.

reply

What if it’s a star you like? I was sad when Jean Claude stopped doing cinema movies and became straight to DVD.

reply

Doesn't matter. They rise, they fall. That's reality.

Real actors or stars?

reply

Little bit. But it seems to be a brutal and fickle career with the vast majority having pretty patchy careers or none at all. So you could argue those who've had any success are actually the lucky ones.

reply

A bit, my first career dried up when all the jobs in that field were sent overseas, so I had to go back to school. I ended up tripling my income and doing something much more interesting, but it was rough and risky for a while there. I have some sympathy for anyone who has to go through an involuntary career change, but I know from personal experience that it's not necessarily the end of the world.

The fact is that acting is like sports or dancing, a profession where most people in the field can only stay there for a few years, and for the vast majority there's no alternative but to find something new to do in one's thirties or forties. It can be interesting to see what the starlets and one-hit-wonders of yesteryear do with the rest of their lives. Did you know Peter Weller of 80s films like "Robocop" and "Buckaroo Banzai" has a PhD in Art History, and is a professor of history at a good college?

reply

No I did not.

reply

Just with actresses. You know Hollywood, you hit that certain age and you're out of a job. But i've spent the last ten years getting emotionally attached to her so it's pretty annoying.

reply

I feel bad for the ones who only had/have small parts. They have dreams to be in bigger stuff, but they never get their chance.

reply

Not really. They get paid very well for what they do and if they weren't smart enough to save for a rainy day then it's not my fault. Some actors also start choosing roles badly or roles that don't suit them hoping to expand or whatever and it doesn't work out. Brendan Fraser is a good example.
