Do you have conversations with your pets ?

I'm always talking to my cat .... well, thinking out loud to her at least.

She gives good advice for the most part ๐Ÿ˜ธ

reply

I talk to my pets, they're idiots so they don't give sensible answers.

I used to have long conversations with a cat I had, whenever I'd whistle he'd make all sorts of chattering and rowring sounds, and if I kept whistling he'd talk back. We'd actually have long nonsense "conversations".

reply

Imagine if they could speak though? Mine would tell me to shut the fuck up then demand a treat lol.

reply

But...what if they initiate it?? With a question??

According to old alpine legends, animals are able to speak on 4 days a year - the "raunรคchte".

There's only one main drawback: If you actually hear them speaking, you're already dead.

reply

I love these weird legends.

reply

That's so annoying!

I know what my idiot junior cat would say... all day long it'd be "Pet me! Play with me! Pet me! Play with me! Let me sleep for a few hours!", and then in the evenings it'd shift to endless repetitions of "Is it dinner time yet? How about now?.

A friend's cat doesn't need translating, he says "HUMAN, FEED ME CHICKEN" every time anyone goes near than the refrigerator.

> Imagine if they could speak though?

"Why do you take off your fur when you sleep at night?"

"Why do you waste your urine by flushing it down the toilet instead of marking the perimeter of the yard outside?"

"Why do you trim your nails instead of sharpening them on the furniture?"

reply

Why do you take off your fur when you sleep at night?" ๐Ÿ˜„

reply

I love my cats and I talk to them frequently, but they just look at me like, "Why are you disturbing me?"

reply

Not so much conversations, as that implies a two-way dialogue. My cat doesn't use words, but he is very good at making sure I understand his orders.

He does strange things. Like he'll jump up on the back of my La-Z Boy chair while I'm sitting in it. Then he puts his front paws on top of my head. Weird.

I HAVE SIX CATS...ONE OF THEM I FOUND AS A FETUS...I HAD TO BOTTLE FEED HIM FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE FOREVER...NOW HE IS A WEIRD LITTLE DUDE...OVERLY AFFECTIONATE...HE DOES THAT SAME THING,EXCEPT ONCE HE HAS HIS PAWS WRAPPED AROUND YOUR HEAD,HE PROCEEDS TO LICK AND NIBBLE HIS WAY AROUND YOUR ENTIRE SKULL.THE WHOLE TIME PURRING AND WIGGLING AROUND LIKE A COKED UP MANIAC....HIS NAME IS ROCKS BY THE WAY.

reply

LOL I was wondering if my cat was the only one that did this. Mine also does the scalp licking bit, but not very often. Most of the time he just plops the paws right on my bald spot and leaves them there.

reply

I talk to my rabbits every day when I feed them or tidy their hutch and bunny run...they never have anything to say

I'm pretty sure these goofballs would never make it to Watership Down

reply

dogs are very intuitive. cats not so much.

reply

Cats know exactly what's going on, they just don't care what you think ๐Ÿ’ฉ

reply

Sometimes, my dog likes it although I get nothing from it.

They were mostly just fun, short, one-sided ones I'd give to my dogs :). They didn't understand what I was saying, save for 1 or 2 words, but they usually knew when I was happy with them and doting on them. My family got similar reactions when talking to our dogs.

There was one funny incident that took place years ago. Back then we had a German Shepherd/Husky hybrid named Ginger, and instead of barking, she vocalized instead. Think Scooby-Doo speaking gibberish. So one time we were having a floor repaired, and while the guys were working, mom was talking to Ginger, telling her she was a good girl for staying out of the way. Ginger vocalized in response, and one of the men working on the floor looks up and asks "Are you really talking to that dog?" hehehehe We had to explain it wasn't really words, but it made her cute and unique.

One thing that's really cool is, you can tell your pets all your secrets and they'll never tell on you ;)

reply

Yeah, I try. But they stubbornly refuse to speak in human language or teach me cat language.
