Hey, I gotta say one thing: Being John Malkovich was the funniest movie of 1999! I loved it when I first saw it, and never considered it particularly funny until the third time I saw it and realized how smart and hilarious the dialogue was. The script feels more absurd at first, focusing more on the events, but DAMN it is a very funny script with creative humor. Not your general punchline-style humor, far more nuanced and caricature-esque humor that turns the characters into almost psychological roles, like Id and Ego, Doubt, Fear, Etc. Very fitting for a movie about people moving into the same brain together.
And the constant deprecation of John Malkovich as an asshole actor who is treated as little more than a vessel for fake respect is hilarious because it's actually quite believable of a celebrity... but so many characters in the movie are aware of Malkovich's actor image and know he's fake, like the guy who throws the beer can at his head.
A lot of funny moments: throwing the can at Malkovich's head, the secretary calling Schwartz by the wrong name, Malkovich going into his own portal, everyone thinking Malkovich played a jewel thief, Dr. Lester telling Schwartz to tell him what letter he wrote down when it wasn't even a letter.
