What was your life like in 1999?

I was in grade 6. Much simpler times. Carefree and nostalgic. Just playing video games and watching WWF wrestling (the good old "Attitude Era").

i was taking accounting classes, working a horrible retail job that i truly sucked at, and perpetually worried about the future.

some people pine for younger days. i am definitely not one of those folks. all i remember about being young was that i was worried and depressed and always brimming with unrequited horniness. i'm happy to have all that business behind me.

reply

and always brimming with unrequited hornines

I fail to see a problem here.

reply

weirdly, i find life much easier to handle now that i'm old & tired!

reply

I'm in my late 30s but I'm definitely a "turn that music down, you damn kids" kind of person.

reply

Best year of my life. My health was great, I wasn't quite the curmudgeon I am now and it was the best year for movies. A great end to the decade.

reply

Columbine put a damper to the year though.

reply

People always say the world changed after 9/11, but I've always felt things were already a little different after Columbine. Some of the innocence was gone and people grew more cynical.

But absolutely a fantastic movie year!

reply

The funny thing is if another Columbine were to happen this year, it would be another "blip in the radar". These days, people are so accustomed to school shootings. A sad commentary of life in USA.

reply

That's true. The same goes for terrorist attacks.

reply

Just finished my first degree, met my husband, and was trying to navigate stresses of adulthood post education.

reply

I turned 40, which I suppose is a milestone. The beginning of middle age.

reply

I was 22. Watched a lot of great movies that year!

reply

What all did you see in theaters?

reply

The Iron Giant
Being John Malkovich
Fight Club
Office Space
The Matrix
American Beauty
The Sixth Sense

reply

Sounds like a all-star line up.

reply

Oh, and The Phantom Menace. It was disappointing, but it was a big event.

reply

Happiest time of my life, a blur of Motherhood.

reply

I was busy working full time and raising three children on my own, although the youngest was in 8th grade by then and the two oldest held down part time jobs while attending school. Thankfully, we all made it and all three of them are now productive adults with good jobs. Yes, there have been quite a few bumps in the road, but we're all good now.

That was also the year we got our first computer, complete with dial-up internet, of course.
