I love a good 1 vs. everybody movie.

Taken, Commando, Man on Fire, Kill Bill. There is no type of film that gives me more pleasure than seeing one person do the impossible and go on a rampage and lay a stack of dead bodies themselves.

I don't think there's a movie I quote more.

Tyler Rake, Dredd, John Wick, Under Siege, The Transporter, The Equalizer, Evil Dead, Lockout, Hardcore Henry, Bourne Identity, Shoot 'Em Up, Crank, Kiss of the Dragon, District 9, Payback, Oldboy, Desperado, Peppermint, ...

Shoot 'Em Up is surprisingly good.

reply

Silly but very entertaining, I like such movies - sometimes.

Funny, I was just watching First Blood the other day. Good movie, but I also think it could be remade as a parody with great effect. I'd like to see a version where Rambo wipes out a town just because he got a parking ticket. "OK, please, we'll forget about the ticket!" "Too late for that!"

reply

He warned them !

I always wished for a different outcome for Brian Dennehey. How about Rambo scales the roof and scares him into falling off the roof, it would be a fitting end for a bumbling sheriff.

reply

That was one thing I didn't like about the movie; it's left unclear whether Teasle survives. He's alive at the movie's end, he's taken away on a stretcher. But with the injuries he had, he could quite possibly have died later.

The book has a bizarre ending. Teasle and Rambo both die, and their final thoughts are of how much they've come to love each other.

reply

Interesting. I'm guessing Sly turned down the Brokeback Mountain subplot.

reply

Nothing sexual about it. They recognize that they're alike in many ways and respect each others' courage; with that, plus the age difference, it's more like "the son/father I never had."

reply

I'm in the minority, but I didn't like First Blood.

That surprises me, given your OP.

A funny thing about Stallone that had never occurred to me until some critic made this observation. His two iconic characters are Rocky and Rambo. The Rocky of the later movies is an old man, with an old man's infirmities and such. The Rambo of the later movies is just as effective an ass kicker as ever. One character is defined by his age, the other is ageless.

The disrespect to Cobra.

reply

> The disrespect to Cobra.

Huh? Sorry, I don't understand what you mean.

reply

The critic said that Rambo and Rocky were his two iconic characters. Cobra would like a word.

reply

Oh, OK. I thought you were saying that was your reason for disliking First Blood; the "disrespect to Cobra." It had me puzzled, thinking "was there a character named Cobra in that movie?"

I need to get some sleep.

reply

Don't forget another Stallone R classic Rhinestone.
