Aphorisms that don't stand up to scrutiny

I had two but can't remember the other one.

The first is - (paraphrase) A young person who isn't Liberal has no Heart. An old person who isn't Conservative has no Brain

I thought this was reasonable when I was young but not now.
Of course, maybe I have no Brain but aside from that, ...

What other easy Aphorisms sound right but don't quite hit the mark?

reply

"You wouldn't understand. You don't have kids."

Plenty of people with and without kids understand quite clearly. Lots of people who drop this one don't understand.

I hate the expression that “Nothing is impossible.” Just because a large set of things are possible doesn’t exclude a larger set of things being impossible.

A penny saved is a penny earned.

What about stolen pennies?

reply

I save change and use pennies in order to get nickels, dimes and quarters (yeah, I still pay for most stuff with cash).
I'll even pick them up when I spy one on the ground.
But I don't save them. I hate the idea you could save a penny a day and end the year with $3.65.
They probably should be done away with entirely.

reply

It implies Liberals have heart so it doesn't hold up at all.

This is not the place for such talk, thank you.

You brought it up!
