I can't be the only person who feels that 1980 was 30 years ago.
1980 seems more recent than 40 years ago.
share1980 seems more recent than 40 years ago.
sharethis is one of those things that happens to everyone as they age, i guess
the year i graduated high school (1987) was the 20th anniversary of the summer of love, so there were loads of magazine articles & news shows talking about sgt peppers & jimi hendrix, revisiting that bygone era.
& i remember at the time thinking 'man, that is some ancient history, with all those silly hippies & so on.'
& now i think 'wait a minute - 20 years ago from now was 2000, which was... yesterday.' kurt cobain had been dead for years. primal scream's best album came out in 2000.
how can it be 2020?
LOL - I graduated from high school in 1968 so I was a part of that ancient history - and it really is ancient - 52 years ago but some things seem like yesterday.
shareThe funny thing is that I wasn't even alive in 1980. I was born in 1983 and my whole life the 80s seemed not that long ago. The 80s are now what the 70s were when I was young.
shareI have the same thoughts as you. I remember in 1987 when they were talking about the 20th anniversary of the summer of love. I was 21 at the time thinking how long of a time that was. Now 20 years seems like nothing to me anymore. The 90s don’t seem that long ago to me but the 70s seems eons ago. I don’t think it is just the extra 20 years. In the 70s I was a kid and had a completely different life but in the 90s I was an adult already and the difference compared to today wasn’t as pronounced.
share2010 to 2020 has no defining "theme" to it. It just feels like 2010 never ends.
shareI can't tell a movie from 2010 to 2020 apart. They all look like they were filmed the same year.
shareYeah, fashion seemed to have stopped in 2010. The 70s, everyone had long hair. The 80s, big hair. The 90s, jeans. The 2000s, sporty look, as if we all are runners or doing yoga all the time. 2010-2020 we are still doing the yoga.
Makes me wonder. What's with all the sport fashion look? All people wear sport shoes everywhere all the time. Nike or Adidas t-shirts. Sport jackets or hoodies. Sport trackers on their wrists. Sport this, sport that. It's been almost 20 years and doesn't look like it's gonna fade away.
That's how it should be. I don't see how style can be out of date. What makes style out of date? Society?
shareThe fashion designers in Milan, of course. That's what they do. They dictate where fashion trends go.
They design outrageous silly costumes for the catwalks so that the plebs would see those and fuck that I ain't gonna wear those stupid hats. And there it goes, wearing no hat is the fashion trend for the year.
I'm reading a book that says music, fashion, culture, society, laws, etc. stopped changing drastically since the late 1980s. There was a rush toward nostalgia after the large sweeping changes especially during the 1950-1970s. There was also pushback by the rich and powerful to regain what they lost since FDRs New Deal. Exception is techology, of corse. The book is Evil Geniuses.
shareSo true.
shareThe 2020s haven’t really taken shape yet. In 5 years the 2010s will start to seem ancient.
shareIt feels like 20 years ago to me, but then again, I also find it a bit hard to believe that we're already 20 years into the 21st century. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
shareI remember the Y2K scare very well. It's crazy to think that was 20 years ago. According to 2000, having this discussion meant that we were one of the few survivors.
shareOh, yes. The Y2K scare. I did find it hard to believe that "they" hadn't thought ahead about a possible glitch and made plans for it. And apparently, they did! All the hoopla was a bit ridiculous.
shareMy dad is the type of guy to always be prepared. We were always ready if a tornado hit or if our house was flooded, or if the power went out for a week. But he wasn't buying any of that Y2K crap.
shareMy dad was the type of guy who would be standing in the front yard, looking for the tornado. Worse yet, were the times he went up on the roof. That freaked me out (I was a kid at the time.)
shareDid he shout "bring it!" when the tornado came near?
shareNah. That's wasn't the nomenclature back then. But he was simply a very curious fellow. The rest of the family begged him to get off the roof and come to the basement. Luckily, we never got hit, although one tornado touched down about a mile from our house. Yes, it was scary.
shareThe 80s never died bro!
Hop in my Mustang, we'll score some beer and pick up fancy rich chicks on the North side of town Whooooooo!!!
You're extending me this offer now when no one can cross the border?
shareWhere we are going we don't need borders🤓
shareGiants win tomorrow
shareThis would be awesome👍
shareJust gotta hit russel a few times
shareJones needs to keep scrambling for yards, you gotta like a dude that runs for advantage
I want his shirt!
I'm still wearing
my Manning jerseys.
More like IROC-Z lol, that was the big muscle car back then that everyone wanted
shareIROC...Italian Retard Out Cruising lol!
That's what we called them when we raced them up and down Central Ave in Yonkers😃
I prefer the Mustang (Mustangs are WAY prettier than Camaros)
Truth be told the Camaro was a sweet, fast ride and a better handler than the 'Stang owing to Ford's idiotic break system
Nothing wrong with most of the Camaros
Yeah, this decade is gonna feel weird when it comes down to previous decades. I can't imagine 2007 ever being twenty years ago, or 1979 even being 50 years ago. They all don't sound that long ago to me. 13 years ago in 2007 was 1994, and even then that felt like a bigger change in culture and technology compared to now.
shareYou can get lost just thinking about it.
