Nolan vs Shyamalan

Both have their quirks.
Both rely on gimmick movies.
Both have made some great films and some underwhelming ones.
Which one do you prefer?

reply

I like them both actually but I think Nolan is in another league altogether. Chris for me 👍

reply

I don't think so. He just get bigger budget. Shyamalan is terrible managing big budgets. Avatar The Last Airbender is proof. Nolan is better at financial management for sure. But from filmmaking techniques and proficiency I think they're on par.

reply

Fair enough, but why did you ask if you had already made your mind up and are now dismissing my opinion?

reply

Discussions? No? Fine. Chris it is then.

reply

Sorry, I slept terribly last night 😫 Didn’t mean to sound bitchy. An olive branch to you ak 🕊

Nolan.

NOLAN WORKS ON SUCH A GRAND SCALE,HIS FILMS ARE EPIC SPECTACLES...I CANT IMAGINE SHYMALYMALOMASINGDOG EVER MATCHING NOLAN'S LEVEL...THAT SAID...AS FAR AS RELAXING AND REWATCHING THEIR FLICKS...SHYMALANALANADINGDONGMAN'S FLICKS ARE MUCH MORE COMFORTING REPLAYS.

reply

I spent a few days triying to refute this because Shyamalandingdong jokes are so cringe, but yeah, Nolan movies does feel more grand. Cannot deny that. The most grandestest of Shyamalan's movies was The Last Airbender, and it sucked. Hard.

reply

I have to go with Shyamalan just bevause I love The Sixth Sense so much. But otherwise I think both of them suck.

reply

Nolan has his problems as a filmmaker, but Nolan's worst film is probably "Following" and that would be better than almost anything Shyamalan has done.

reply

Following is certainly not better than The Sixth Sense.

reply

No, nor "Unbreakable". I might even put "Signs" ahead. Other than that, "Following" is better than all the rest.

reply

Not thrilled with either but if I had to choose I'd go Nolan.

reply

I like both, but I give the edge to Nolan.

reply

Nolan is probably technically better, even just from a cinematography standpoint, but I like that Shyamalan takes big swings, even if he misses a lot. Mostly, I just like that Shyamalan's movies are at least fun, even if they're stupid, so I enjoy and revisit his work more.

reply

I think Tenet is probably his Shyamalan moment. He took a big swing and missed. But without the fun.

reply

Haven't seen it, but now I probably won't. Even Shyamalan's stupidest films have their fun moments.
