Will Indian food ever be popular in America?

It's the number one type of food in the UK, and that's because white people love it just as much as Indians.

But I don't recall many Indian restaurants from my travels in America.

What's stopping this cuisine from taking off?

As has been siad above, plenty of Indian restaurants here in southern CA. Only one in ten is any good though. I always try the Chicken Tikka Masala first. If they can get that right then the rest is probably good too. It and Lamb Biryani are my go-to's. Always "super spicy please" or it won't be spicy at all (they fear scorching my white palate)

I personally cook a mean chicken curry. I like mine more than any I have had anywhere. My batches are pretty big so I always have some to give away. Every friend and/or neighbor I have given some to have begged for more. I have yet to get an Indian opinion though.

It does exist here and I think is fairly popular but my impression in London was there's a whole area of Indian restaurants, whereas in the USA it's spread out and you have to go looking in various little shopping centers in whatever city or town you live. Americans tend to move around a lot so anything that's not a chain is at a disadvantage because if people move they don't know where the good restaurants are in their new place. So they tend to end up at Applebee's or TGIFriday or whatever is familiar.

I'm Indian myself and I love Indian food. My favs are garlic naan with butter or tandoori chicken with rice. As well as samosas and Dosas. And paratha and rotis. Yum. I think the main reason it's not popular in America is that Americans generally hate spices and "hot food".

Well I'm American and I love spicy food. Introduced to Vindaloo about twenty years ago. Took such a shine to it that I learned how to make it myself.
