Daughters of Darkness (1971)

Salem’s Lot (1979)
Near Dark (1987)
Let the Right One In (2008)

Here are 2 favorite vampire movies 1) Thirst 2) Daybreakers.

reply

Byzantium is the best vampire movie so far. Near Dark is second best.

The word “vampire” is not used in either film.

Honorable mention: Full Moon Productions’ Subspecies series. Anders Hove as Radu, master of the Bloodstone, was BORN to play a nosferatu.

reply

I thought the finger or thumb nail thing was lame.

reply

Pretty small criticism of an original and terrific narrative told with good-to-excellent acting. Not for nothing: the immortal blood-drinkers in Near Dark, another widely-acclaimed and enjoyed vampire movie, also lacked the requisite dental accouterments and slit their victims’ throats But fangs for your input.

TWILIGHT FILMS ARE DECENT ENTERTAINMENT WITH A PRIME K STEW...IF YOU CAN GET PAST SPARKLY VAMPIRES AND TEENAGE LOVE.

reply

Stephanie Meyer is actually a very good storyteller. She's wasting her talent writing teen romance.

If you skip the romance scenes in The Host (which are about 5% of the novel), what remains is a great scifi novel, and one of my favorite ones.

I started to read the first Twilight book out of curiosity and couldn't finish it. It had more sugar and romance than I could handle. But storytelling-wise, it was surprisingly well done. Meyer could be a great writer if she stopped writing romance.

The Host movie is just awful. The novel is much better.

â–  Dance of the Vampires (1967) - Polansky going Hammer. A masterpiece.
â–  Vampires (1998) - It's Carpenter, enough said.
â–  Let the Right One In (2008) - The Swedish original, please.
â–  Fright Night (1985) & Fright Night (2011) - Nostalgia is powerful, but Colin Farrell is brilliant in the remake
â–  Frostbitten (2006) - An unknown lovely Scandinavian little jewel.
â–  Blade I and II - There was never a third movie. That's a urban myth.

â–  Bonus: The Nude Vampire (1970) and other Jean Rollin vampire movies. I don't know if Rollin is a genius or a softcore porn director gone nuts, but his movies have some kind of magic that it's difficult to explain.

I actually prefer the Fright Night remake. Farrell, David Tennant and Toni Collette are all very good and I found the pacing and effects superior to the original. It's a romp.

reply

Yeap, Farrell, Tennant and Collette were very good in the remake. However, the main teen couple feels more bland and forgettable than the original one.

reply

Fair point.

reply

EVIL ED...THATS WHERE THE REMAKE SUFFERS.

reply

That's a very good movie. I like it.

reply

Carpenter ftw!
