What did you watch this week my beautiful people? (23/08-29/08)

Hey hey! Your looking pretty good today. Changed something?

Anyways, here’s what I watched this week y’all:

Skyfall (2012 TV): I think this might be the James Bond movie with the most beautiful cinematography ever and, although it has its fare share of flaws and nonsensical moments, it won me over with its tremendous amount of overzealous action and testosterone. My rating: 7.5/10

Begin again (2013 TV): I just want to start by saying that my wife absolutely loved it. Personally, I did not enjoy the music and the drama wasn’t really good. The movie is a musical-drama so... yeah. The actors were alright though. 5/10

Child’s Play 2 (1990 DVD): I have to face it now; I’m a bigger Chuky fan than I thought I was. I mean, when I was young I thought he was cool and he freaked me out, well it turns out I still do and he still does. The first I rated 8.5 and the sequel was almost as great. It’s pure genius at work folks. Simple as that. 8/10

Child’s play 3 (1991 DVD): This is the only Chucky movie I had actual memories of because I saw it twice and it’s the last one I saw as a kid. It is a drop from the first two but perfection can only go so far my friends. That being said, I’m ready to knife fight anybody that claims that this is a bad movie. It is actually an above average one AND it’s funny. Best line: “Now assume the position”. 2nd best line: “Man, I really gotta get out of this body!” My rating: 7/10

Bamboozled and she’s gotta have it have been on my list forever.

I’ll watch the new bill and Ted eventually for sure.

Just one

Saturn 3 (1980)

Starring: Kirk Douglas, Farrah Fawcett, Harvey Kietel

Haven't seen this movie in years, so I revisited.

A medium/low budget sci fi story about a remote outpost that gets a new robot.

For all the sci-fi geeks out there, this movie was in my mind the precursor to the Terminator series. While the story is very different, a key element is the same, a large powerful robot chases a beautiful girl.

Unfortunately the story and dialogue are kind of lame, the dated special effects leave much to be desired. But Farrah Fawcett prancing around in skimpy outfits is a big plus.

5/10

Hey man!

Yeah, it doesn’t look like a very good movie...

Greetings Stonekeeper!
Thanks for the compliment and back at ya too. I haven’t seen any of yours this week but it looks like you were going on a Chucky Marathon. What about the first one?

My week:

Mr. Majestyk (1974) On this viewing I caught that Elmore Leonard was the writer which I had never noticed before. Charles Bronson runs into problems with the law and a hit man while trying to pick his Majestyk mellons. There are some off road scenes in this that they had to have used several trucks to film. Bronson fans will love this one.

The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane (1976)
Jodi Foster stars as a girl living alone trying to hide that her parents have passed away. This one is intriguing enough, especially with Martin Sheen as the perv. My biggest complaint is the odd soundtrack just doesn’t fit.

The Touch of Satan (1971)
A guy meets a farm girl who may be a witch. Ultra low budget and weird horror here that probably only obscure genre fans would enjoy.

Return of the Living Dead (1985)
An accident in a storage house brings the dead back to life and are battled by punk rockers among others. My daughter and I watched this one and laughed through the whole thing. It was so funny and at the same time had one of the most frightening zombies ever. The version on Prime omitted several of the original songs from the VHS so I’m looking for it now. Damn this movie is a lot of fun.

Yep, I watched it in July. Here were my thoughts: It’s the first time for me to watch this as an adult and I was surprised how well it held up. I found it fun, scary, well-acted and solid direction, in other words, everything about it is pretty much perfect for my taste. My rating: 8.5/10

I saw return of the living dead when I was young.

Touch of Satan was spoofed on a great MST3K episode.

I’ve never seen MST3K but I can see how it could be spoofed. I watched it stoned and fell asleep mid way through and had nightmares. Lol.

The Poseidon Adventure (1972) - A better movie than I remember. Great performances from Winters, Hackman and especially Borgnine. 8/10

The Thin Red Line (1998) - A movie I sort of forgot about. We are not used to WW 2 movies where the soldiers question the war. This is one of them. It is a bit maudlin in places but some great battle scenes. Nolte should have gotten a Oscar nom as the overly aggressive Colonel. 7.5/10

The Killers (1964) - Finally saw it. Reagan was pretty good as the crooked mastermind. I did have some plot questions about this movie. It did jump around and was disjointed in places. 7/10

A Stolen Life (1946) - Glen Ford's breakout role although I thought he didn't have much to do. Bette Davis is great playing twin sisters. I loved the split screen roles with Davis - I didn't know they had that ability back then. The plot is a bit underwhelming. I wanted to see more of the bad sister. 6.5/10

Hackman was absolutely great in Poseidon Adventure also. 👍

I really appreciate The Thin Red Line More than I used to when it first came out. Right on about Noltie.

reply

The thin red line: yep. 7.5/10

I watched Doctor Sleep and it was so much better than I was expecting. An excellently crafted and completely worthy sequel to a cinematic masterpiece.

4/5

Oh I’m glad to hear that since I bought it recently. Lots of people seems to complain about it.

Bonjour mon ami,

Joker - no capes or super powers to be seen. Just a view into a man’s mental breakdown. Very good.

Charlie’s Angels (2019) - not as bad as people make out. Not great, just ok.

Gotham S3, Ep1-11 - harmless fun.

Hey gars!

I saw Jokeer a month ago, here was my review: ): For the first 10 minutes I was scared because It look like a poor mise en scène to allow Phoenix to show he could do more faces then Ledger. Then came that uncontrollable laughter interrupted only by small burps. But the story got me hooked mere moments after and I especially appreciated the final act. I was hoping for that final scene with Robert De Niro and it did not disappoint. I thinks it’s time for a, Movie Breakdown!!!:
Acting: 7
Story: 8
Cinematography: 7.5
Direction: 8
Violence: 8.5
Soundtrack: 8.5
Overall: 8/10

Hi! Hi there.

Skyfall (2012): I think I liked this one the less of all 007 movies that I've watched. Still not bad. 6,5/10
I have not seen Child’s Play, but I wonder why since I like horror-comedies?

This week I watched:

Wasabi (2001) /re-watch/: It was on TV and I got stuck in front of it for a good twenty minutes. I like Reno, this might not be his best film, but still entertaining. 7/10
Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019): I fast forwarded during the "story scenes" cause I was only interested in the interviews, but it turned out I had alrady seen most of them. The other parts seemed kinda dull with the same blunt Will Ferrel jokes, but I might give it another try someday. 5/10 (The Galifianakis parts are always 10/10 for me.)

I also started Umbrella Academy S02. I'm 2 episodes in, and everyone's right, it's still great. Too soon to rate it though.

Wasabi and two ferns are both on my list

Freaking hell, Whoopi Goldberg!😖

-Pacific Palisades - Episodes 7 and 8
