The Human Problem
Am I the only one that sees a problem with human behavior? Has anyone noticed humans desperately trying to achieve goals that matter to no one? Humans- what are they good for?

shareSometimes they can create some pretty good music.

All of the traditional goals of mankind are considered out of fashion.
* Religion
* Raising huge families
* Progressing the interests of your country (Patriotism)
* Doing things to better your community. At best you will be ignored, at worst you will be sued for not being inclusive enough.
So we just sit around and talk shit on forums.
I think you've misstated the problem .... keep on trying. ;-)
shareSo condescending. You know something I don't? By all means, share your knowledge.
Telling me I'm wrong and to keep trying is just counterproductive.
Correct me brux.
> Has anyone noticed humans desperately trying to achieve goals that matter to no one?
So, you are stating that all humans try to achieve goals that matter to no one? Whatever gave you an idea like that, and why would you think someone is condescending when it is obviously false?
Sorry if I misread you. I'm asking, what are human goals? How do our goals better ourselves or any other thing? All life on this planet has a purpose. Anyone know what ours is?
share"All life on this planet has a purpose."
Can you give some examples?
Yes. Everything. Trees, bees, algae, moss, insects...
C'mon, you've never thought about this? Never watched planet earth?
But what is the purpose of any of those forms of life?
shareYou're fucking with me. They all rely on each other for survival. Their purpose is life on earth.
shareOh, then how are humans any different?
(It sounds like life is the purpose of life, though, which seems pretty circular to me. Pointless too, if all life results in death too, no?)
Humans are different because nothing relies on us for survival. If the planet were just one big resource for human life, that still doesn't explain how humans fit in. If life is the purpose of life, then humans are failing. We are destroying all life on this planet, including human life.
shareAll sorts of animals and plants (and other humans, but of course, that's just another animal) rely on humans for survival.
But I guess you are saying we aren't doing a good job, if we are stewards.
I agree with you 100%.
But I don't believe we are stewards. (Not that the world wouldn't be a better place if we were.)
What plants and animals (besides humans) rely on humans for survival? House plants? Pets?
shareOur, human, goals are complicated because we have a brain that lives in a virtual model of this world and can make up any nonsense it likes, even overriding the body's basic motive to stay alive. So, that is an open question. We even manipulate each other with our social constructs, and now literary and media models of the world. We used to have religion that people adhered to for exactly what you are talking about, but the problem always is that the more people adhere to social conventions, the easier their behavior is to predict, so that social predators can manipulate people,and then it ruins the social conventions. We are in a such a period today where everything is chopped, diced and blended together to such a point that it is almost impossible to have a coherent world view.
