The pronoun “one”

There is a lot of pronoun preferences being exerted nowadays, but why has no one embraced the gender neutral pronoun “one”.

I kind of like it.

- at an ice cream shop “Does one prefer chocolate or vanilla”.

- At work “Can one get that report in by Friday?”

One can all use it and go around sounding like royalty.

reply

One is happy to consider it, given ones surname.

reply

One-king.

reply

Why does everything circle back to Wan King?

reply

It is the loneliest number

reply

That reminds me of Billy Connolly talking about he and his wife in bed and he wanted to ask her if she was interested in having sex so he said " One would like to give one one. "

reply

Joking aside, what is the original demand, "I would like to give you ......a baby."?

reply

I'm sticking to "he", "she" and their variants.

reply

"One" is not technically a pronoun because it is not taking the place of another person or group.

reply

👍
Although it could be used in place of "you" , probably incorrectly .
as in "could one F**k off please?"

reply

“No one” is very much an overstatement. One should avoid such sweeping statements. One USED to argue that “‘he’ is the universal pronoun, but I rejected this years ago as being sexist. My choice, in lieu of “he” is “s/he,” of my own devise. “Their” and “they” are plural pronouns, so illiterate when applied to a singular; and transgender can go fuck itself; though I realize what I said really only applies to hermaphrodites.

reply

What we need is a singular pronoun.
I always find it odd when people use "they" to refer to a single person

reply

That's fine, but when referring to myself I prefer the royal we.

reply

You said Royal wee, titter 🤭

reply

We are not amused.

reply

😆

Didn’t three dog night consider this already? Probably not, they didn’t use it as a pronoun:
