what is the greatest experimental independent film of all time ?

reply

Eraserhead?....memento?....I know Erasehead was independent, not sure about memento but probably considered experimental...I’m not an expert, I’ll leave it to our resident MC movie mavens here to take a crack at it...

Good post, I’d like to see some answers, add to my viewing list...better than just using google, I’d like to hear from those I respect here and who know what they’ re talking about....

That’s what I’m talking about, such a newbie I am, Cassavetes and I’ve never seen it...sounds interesting....added to list, thanks BH...

I don’t like to read reviews too much...I read them after...an overview or brief synopsis is as far as I go, it sounds interesting from what I’ve read so far, I like to be surprised with some films, I’d say this would be one of them...

reply

T yeah you should never read reviews before a movie. Nothing to be worried about. It's a great movie, just pay attention to it because cassavetes never spoon-fed his audience. I liked it the most probably after my second or third viewing because I caught things that I didn't notice in the background or the foreground during my first view.

also I remember a lot of cassavetes movies being on YouTube for free

The Clock (2010) - 24 hour long film. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Clock_(2010_film)

The Blair Witch Project.

It had a budget of around $60,000 but grossed almost $249 million worldwide. It spawned books, a trilogy of video games, and a less-popular sequel.

reply

And it invented an entire new genre!

reply

It didn't.

Found footage already existed before Blair Witch Project. What the movie did was to apply Lars Von Trier's Dogme principles to the genre. It worked so well that since then every found footage movie is almost a Dogme movie. But that was it.

I’ll keep you company, just going through old stuff...when I find friends, I respond to their posts, that’s how I found this post and others...

I get mischievous this time of night. I’m plotting and scheming, I should never be left to my own devices. We usually have friends over but it’s quiet tonight.

reply

That rascal Miss Frogandtoad, mischievous, I don’t believe it, lol...I can’t sleep like normal the past few nights so this has been the norm for me since Saturday....Watching Platoon in the background, lurking around MC, quiet yet good times....

I was considering practicing vigilante justice on the next fruitcake that brings up birdwatchers and karens. It’s cool, people are still dying from a pandemic that’s not going away anytime soon. Everyone is acting crazy as fuck around my city, but let’s focus on the guy that has dog treats?? I’m kidding of course but wtf with everyone?

reply

I hear ya...karen is so lame and lazy....and I like my camera phone option, but fuck if everyone thinks they’re suddenly an expert on Cinéma vérité...but I suppose getting it recorded allows the viewer to make up their own mind....I’m normally a news junkie, froogy, but the past few months I’ve just had take a hard pass at times, news lately a tougher watch for me then the Twilight series (I still love you, k-stew)...

reply

I feel you. I don’t watch the news at all. My boyfriend fills me in on the stuff I need to know, and some things I learn here on mc. I just don’t want my mind corrupted by reality tv news and public opinion.
Shh.. don’t tell nobody, but I like Twilight🤫 Thanks for keeping me company last night bud. Good looking out✌️
